i went to this site but I did not find PIR which I keep hearing over and over. Can you help? Thanks Cheri

PIR means Pass in Review. It is what we call the ceremony for boot camp graduation.

Grad n go = Your sailor gets immediate orders and may not spend but a few hours with you after
PIR (pass in Review).

We didn't even get a few hours, unless you count waiting with him at the airport..... Very Disappointing :o(

aww, that's sad...sorry to hear that...maybe you can go and spend some time with him when he gets to his destination?? and gets some liberty time?

We got about an hour with him. What was more frustrating was that he was later told that he had more time. Jason ended up going out to eat with another family, for which I am very grateful! To top it off, he had delays at the airport because of snow and fog. At least after A & C school were over, he came home for about 3 weeks.

PAO = Public Affairs Office
RDC = Recruit Drill Commander
NEFM = Nuclear Electrician's Mate Fireman (fireman = someone who fires up the engines)
DC = Damage Control (the guys who fight/put out fires)
GL = Great Lakes, IL (boot camp location)
GC = Goose Creek, SC (Nuke "A" school location)
PFA = Personal Fitness Assessment
BS = Battle Stations (final exam for boot camp)

That's all I can think of for now. They go on & on. You just kind of learn them as you go along.
