Tina -- James' mom

Anyone with a child leaving for Great Lakes the week of May 5?

My son is leaving for GL from Atlanta on May 7. I have no idea what time, flight, etc., yet. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there with a child leaving around that same time. They may end up together at GL. I'd love to have a "buddy" to go thru basic training with...lol.

Tina-

Hi! My name is Irene and my son leaves for GL from Maryland on May 6th. Maybe Kevin and your son will be hooked up together. I'll be your buddy!

I'm supposed to take him to the Recruiter's office today so they can drive him up to MEPS. Only thing is, he STILL hasn't called to find out what TIME he's supposed to be there!

Hi Tina, There's two leaving Tucson on the 8th. I'm trying to encourage the mom's to join, but they haven't yet. Hopefully one or both will sign up once the guys leave . . .
I'm not sure who I am replying to... Tina, or Joyce. Joyce, thanks for your support and encouragement, I just joined. Tina, my son Travis left from Airzona on 5/8. He was supposed to have a "buddy"leave with him on 5/8, but that didn't happen. The buddy/friend hopes to leave on Thursday. We got that quick call that first night, and the "brown box" yesterday. I thought we were supposed to have an address where we can write to the boys in the box, but was not the case (Travis may not have done it). We got his address today from the recruiter.
Yes! I'm so glad you're here:)!
welcome sandy glad to have you in the group!!!!!!!
Thanks for the welcome. Glad to have this resource/support. I need it.
Hi Tina, we are in Atlanta as well and it is a 90 minute flight to O'hare. However our recruiter told our son he was leaving on Feb. 26th - what he really meant was he was leaving home the afternoon before so he could go down to MEPS, spent the night there and flew out the next day. He did land in GL on the 26th but it was 24 hour plus process leading up to it.

I'm willing to bet there will be a number of new recruits flying out with him, Atlanta is a big processing center. If you have any questions, please let me know.
My youngest daughter left today (May 6) from Jacksonville, Florida to go to Great Lakes. Their plane left at 1:30 this afternoon. We went to the MEP's station and was there at the swearing in and also followed the van to the air port and watched her leave. I have no idea when the graduation will be. I understand that tickets may be over $1,000 round trip from Jacksonville to Chicago. We are thinking about driving. My husband is retired Navy and went through Boot Camp twice (he got out once and then re-enlisted) but he is no help!!! I kept thinking that she would call, but she hasn't.
graduation should be july 4th ..... we already have reservations at the navy lodge my son left out of knoxville on the 6th
From what I can tell on the website, my son, Div 235 is scheduled to grad. on Friday, June 27. I don't know what I am going to do yet because we are suppose to drive with the rest of my family from Ohio to Orlando on that day. I don't know if I should fly to Chicago for the ceremony and then fly to Orlando to join the rest of my family. It would be nice if my husband and I could both go, but then who will drive the rest of my family to Orlando. Nothing is every easy is it. Is the grad. a one day thing, or are there other activities over the weekend? God Bless all of you.
Oh wow carol you would be graduating on the 27th and wow what a decision to make ...... no it want be easy but you will do what you need to do .... the graduation ceremony is actually about 2 hours long and after that the child get 's liberty which means you can go off base with him until a certain time at night on the fri of graduation... then on sat and sun you pick him up at base and do anything you like until ccurfew time..... unless he has to do watch and you want know that until you get there and it want be for both days andwant be all the time ... but you will have the weekend with him unless he is grad n go....
Are they really going to have a graduation on July 4??? My son left May 7 & we kinda figured they would have it on the 11th...Anybody know???
