Tina -- James' mom

Anyone with a child leaving for Great Lakes the week of May 5?

My son is leaving for GL from Atlanta on May 7. I have no idea what time, flight, etc., yet. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there with a child leaving around that same time. They may end up together at GL. I'd love to have a "buddy" to go thru basic training with...lol.

Tina i found this on the 900 divisions

During "P Week," you'll be asked if you have any experience (or interest) in drill, musical instruments, or singing. If so, you may be assigned to a "900 Division." These special recruits get to do pretty much everything the other recruits in boot camp get to do during their nine weeks, but also practice to put on shows at events such as parades, and recruit graduation ceremonies. 1992MSSN1995, a member of our Message Forum, briefly describes his experience as a member of a "900 Division:"

Things may have changed since I went through, but probably not that much. I was in a "Triple Threat Company" as part of the 900 Division. We had the recruit Band, Choir, and Drill Team. We did the same things everyone else did, plus we had practices on top of it all. As far as special priveledges you don't really see anything with exception of at times you may be escorted off of the base to perform in parades, and or concerts on occassion. We performed at the German Fest in Milwaukee and a couple of parades, plus we performed at a couple of graduations past week 4.
Yeah, I've seen this. I've also read somewhere (heaven only knows where) that sometimes they watch you when you get off the plane in Chicago to see who "looks good." I'm hoping he tells me how this happened soon.

When I asked his recruiter how he got in a 900 division, he said, "Well, the numbers just go up and up and then they start over." I said, "OK." knowing full well he was wrong.

LOL yea they think us moms dont do our homework BEFORE we talk to them .....
I'm serious! I made James shave before he left the hotel and wear nice shorts, a collared shirt and (halfway) decent tennis shoes.

Bev, hope this isn't redundant... I've tried to reply 3X so far, and keep getting interruped. I sent a letter to Travis this moring, and another one is ready to go out tommorow (his brother put a letter in too). How old is Josh? Travis is 19. I think I saw a note mentioning that you are from MI. My husband and I are from MI too, and that is still home; most of our family is there. We are yoopers (Upper Michigan). I like the idea of sending a form for Travis to fill out, and he always liked multiple choice questions...maybe adding some fun things... Do you miss your mom reminding you to clean up your room? What type of food do you like the most/worst at Navy boot camp? What is the best thing about BC, the worst thing? ... I'm hoping to go to the AZ mom's gathering in June, and look forward to meeting everyone.
Sandy,

What ship and division is Travis in? My son is ship 6, div 933.

tina
Bev I dont have a child in that division but our children will be graduating together and going through boot at the same time... i think there is Myself, Tina, Sandy, and Vickie and you so far ..
Pam - I'm really enjoying reading the responses between you and Tina. Your humor is very addicting. Josh told me that he would be graduating on July 3, but I haven't seen it written anywhere yet. If you all leave this discussion, don't forget me. : )
It's because Pam and I are the resident psychos. Your son is in our sons' PIR. Join our group. It's "PIR ? 7/4/08."

tina
Bev on theletter i got it also said graduation would be july 3rd
as for leaving you ....NO WAY!!!!!
The graduation website might be updated tomorrow (Friday) so we'll see what that says.

I was thinking that maybe we need to have an entrance exam for our new PIR group. We could ask questions like
1. What's the weather going to be in Chicago on May 21, 2008?
2. How would you get to Ship 8 from Ship 6? How about Ship 11 to Ship 9? (that way everyone would have to have your map).
Then we could do a matching section like match the following mothers with their sons:
Pam -- Phillip
Tina -- James
Bev -- Josh
Leta -- Daniel
Linda -- Sarah
Steve's mom -- Steve (gotta get her name)
Bev J -- don't know, but it's a girl
Vickie -- Cody
Janet -- Zach

Have you heard from Janet or Bev J? I don't think I have...

tina
yea sounds like fun !!! cool a game i like it
