Ann if you want to do what I call "THE MOM THING" you may beable to call GL yourself to get the word started. let me check with a couple of moms on here. Hold tight we will get you an answer!!!

Yes it is documented with the Government for all his schooling. Middle school, High school and even College. Why the recruiter didn't is very suspicious to me.

I'm finding out that the recruiters are not know-it-all wizards. Mostly they seem to be just regular Navy folks doing the job of recruiting. I know several moms that have been disappointed with the recruiters (me included - and we didn't even really have any important issues with our son).

I guess I would really like to think that each and every one of our sailors and soldiers are upholding their own personal honor as well as honor to our country. However, the reality is that they are just men and women like the rest of us and get tempted just like all of us. I know that the recruiters get a bonus for each recruit they sign up. We all know how money can influence a person's actions. It's just really a shame that the same folks that preach honor, etc to our kids are the same ones who also want our kids to lie for their (the recruiters) own personal gain.
That's just reality. That's the reason God sent his son to pay the penalty of sin for all of us.

well now hugs from houston you know the navy recruiting station has a navy recruiting disrtict and not seeking more information well you should of researched....sorry you did not. I am a recruiter here in Dallas District and as of 3yrs to date every parent will tell you I have been 100% the recruiter I should of been. No we do not get a financial stipen for every person we put in. Thats a rumor taken ablaze on its own. I am sorry for your distress, but not all recruiters are the same.

Maybe he should go see one of the doctors on base and have them get his medical record regarding this?

Ann, This is a good idea too. There may be a medical test he can take to determine the severity of his dyslexia. Cindy

Hi Ann, I can understand your concern because our family suffers with a mild bit of dyslexia. You might try contacting the Public Affairs Office at 847-688-2405. Even though this is not a "public" issue, they are the office that sort of liasons between the family and the recruits. Also, the ombudsman may be able to get a note in your son's file. You can contact the ombudsman by e-mail at rtcombudsman@aol.com. I have not personally had any contact with the ombudsman but understand that they are another avenue of contact for parents. Hope this helps.
Remember, no matter what happens, God created Nick and loves him more than you do (as if that's possible but it's true - see John 3:16) Also, Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I pray for all the sailors and soldiers serving our country around the world and will put in a special request for you and Nick. It doesn't feel like much but I hope it helps you to know that we're rooting for Nick and all the sailors. He will become a stronger person than you or he could ever have imagined.

My recent experience is that my son, who struggled with learning disabilities through school, did not make it through A school. Consequently, he did not earn a sign-on bonus and will not be in the field of his choice. He is being sent back to GL for training now. It was a chance he took when he joined. I don't believe there is anything, as a parent, you can do. You also don't want word to come down through the division that he has a "helicopter mom."

Thanks everyone, I think we are going to tell Nick just like my father did, that he should talk to his clergyman. Nick goes to Mass every Sunday when possible. My answer to him was not to take all this in anger and maybe God does have another plan for him. There are other sineros there that I don't want to get into but I do think they are using Nick to get their point straight. It's 6:26 here and we are awaiting our call from him to hear how he did today on his retake.
Tami your right I don't want to be a helicopter mom but I have always been the one to fight for his education when others didn't care. Unfortunately desylexia is where the wiring in your brain is not wired correctly. Nick desifyers information in another order and there is no medication to help with this. I leave this all with the mother of all Mary and will have faith that she is standing over his shoulder encouraging him with his studies.
I'm still open for anyother encouragements and prayers as we have prayers coming from California to Mass and as far north as NOva Scotia. Keep them coming moms and dads we are proud of our sailor.

My son is also dyslexic. Actually I have three sons who are dyslexic! Your son's predicament somewhat frightens me. If your son could take a verbal test this would help.
