Navy For Moms

Hello,
I am new to this- My daughter left for bootcamp on July 15th. Started receiving the letters which made me feel so much better. Until last night, I got a call and answered it.....it was my daughter and she yelled "Mom" I said "Jess, honey is that you?" She was crying hysterically I asked if everything was ok and she cried even harder, then she said "I gotta go, I gotta go". And she was gone. I was left sitting not knowing what just happened and all I have done is cry. Her recruiter back here at home can't help. I feel so lost and helpless. Everyone says she is probably just homesick, but she never talked or anything just what I typed is what she said. So I am worried something is wrong. I am proud of her and I know she is doing something wonderful, but the mom in me is struggling.

Thank you

Oh Wendy, this waiting period at boot camp can be so grueling on moms. But, I agree with the other moms, hang in there. This site is SO helpful through this period. Waiting for the once a week letter is also hard. Pulling the wisdom teeth is a normal procedure at boot camp. My son had his out, although they never gave him trouble in the past. It is preventive. Just keep sending letters, daily. Even if she is homesick, she can read and re-read your letters of encouragement - "you can do this" "we are so proud of you" "you have what it takes"... Send letters about your daily happenings, without too much "I miss you terribly!" etc.etc. Know that you are not alone, N4M are here to support you! Blessings - Pam

Raven is in Div 331 Ship 14. I would be beside my self with worry. I talk to another mother whose daughter is in the same div and ship and Jess. I'm going to see if she can enlist her daughter's help as well. It's going to take a few days to hear anything but not to worry I'm working on it for you. I'll keep in touch, Shannon

Thank you very much. I appreciate it your help more than words can express. I just do not want to get her into trouble. People are telling me she may have snuck a phone call and if they find out then she would get reprimanded.

Wendy.....my heart aches for you. All of the advice these great Moms have already given you I ditto....All you can do is stay strong for your daughter and continue to write everyday, this not only helps her, but it will help you too. It is easier to have their wisdom teeth pulled while at BC, then while out at sea.It is just a bummer for these kids because they don't expect it. She sounds like a strong ,young lady and we know we all have our moments. She was probably having a moment and just wanted to hear your voice. Stay positive. I know it is difficult, but we're here to help out if you need us. Keep the faith. I pray her Angels walk beside her and give her strength. Take care. Andrea.....:)

Thank you Andrea..... I never miss a day of not sending something ot her. Whether it be a letter, card or just a comic just so she knows I am here thinking of her. I assume they seen in her dental exams that maybe she would have a problem later in life and to take care of it now. I sit on pins and needles waiting to hear from her. I don't know when or if they ever get to make a call home. I just enjoy the letters when they do come.
Thank you for the prayers....I will say a prayer for your child as well. Do you have a son or daughter in?

Hi Wendy

My son,Kevin joined August 31st last year. I can't believe it has almost been a year already. BC seemed like it took forever. He is out on his first deployment on the USS Abe Lincoln....over in the Gulf. Thanks for your prayers. Take it a day at a time....I still do. It's a journey.... we're all here for each other every step of the way....:) Smooth sailin. Andrea

Thank you, I will let everyone know as soon as I hear something.
I appreciate all of the support the moms have been giving. It truly has helped me. My family is there for me, but to talk to other moms that are going through the same things and understand a little better helps tremendously.

Hi Wendy,I understand how you fell .My daughter was so home sick at BC. She would cry on the phone one time and the next she would be laughing.I always told my daughter when she got home sick to draw on the strengh of her family. I told her each one of her brothers and sisters had certain strenghs and when she needed them we would all share. That seemed to help her a lot. The star thing is wonderful!! Did you know that you can buy a star and name it ? I will see if i can find the web site for you. i bought one for my father cause "What do you buy the man who has everything" A Star!

Dear Wendy,
My first and second phone call from my son was all tears. He cried and kept on saying this sucks. His dad told him all about boot camp but until you go you have no idea. It is like having a baby you don't know what it is like until you go through it. If there was anything really wrong you would have been notify. It gets better after the third week. My son said the the first sunday they asked if anyone wanted to go to church some of the guys said no. So they worked when everyone else got to relax. He said going to church was great. People were really nice and kept on telling them to hang on. I am sure she is ok. My daughter leaves on the 25th of August. I can't stand it. My baby. Just reading everyones words makes me cry. What am I going to do when she leaves. Everyone is in my prayers.
Take care,
Laureen
