Navy For Moms

I just got a letter from my son today and there is this one line that makes me chuckle over and over again...I thought it might be fun to share these if anyone else has any. I considered putting it in context for ya'll but thought it wouldn't be as funny. So, in David Letterman style, I will start with my so far funniest line home from my son was:

"I guess not everybody appreciates ninjas."

This thread has brought me SO much comfort and laughter!! My son PIR'd in September and is currently deployed until August. He gets to email now and again, but mostly they have been very short as he's quite busy and has others that he wants to communicate with. Sadly, I only have one letter from BC and that's only because I scanned it for him and put it on his Facebook page for him. (My husband walked out on us the week before Christmas and took ALL of my sailor's BC letters with him). I save EVERY email now!
On one that I wrote him in BC, I sprayed a little of my perfume on the letter. I really hesitated and was a bit worried how it would be received; if anyone would give him a hard time, but he didn't say anything of that nature only that "I could smell your perfume on your letter and it really comforted me and made me miss you even more".
I'm not suggesting anyone else do that; I think he was just lucky!

He teased me about my letters being typed and not handwritten saying
"I know you spend 24/7 at your puter Mom, but handwritten would be nice, too".

Regarding graduation, he said
"I can't believe in 2 weeks I will be a United States Sailor! After weeks of hearing I will amount to nothing and that I'm a piece of garbage, will finally pay off!"
In the same letter, but from a different day:
"..So the highlight of my day was seeing an Admiral...other than that, not much else going on. It's so funny..I feel like a Senior again, counting the days until Grad...it's going by SO fast!" "I can still see you, Mom, as Dad and I pulled out of the driveway, you are standing in the garage with my Navy hat on crying like you always do (I bet you still wear it AND my hoodie, YOU THIEF!)."
I had always been stealing his hoodies! I didn't have the heart to tell him that I put his hat and hoodie in his "special box" in the basement the day after he left.

"..PS..If you want to send a check for my pics, send it with the "TO" part blank cuz I don't know who to write it out to...also SEND SPORTS UPDATES!" That blank check thing REALLY scared me...LOL We just gave him cash at grad!!

The absolute funniest thing he wrote, however, will need a disclaimer. He meant NO disrespect and neither do I...it's just his sense of humor. I pray no one here takes offense....
"On Monday I get to be a Jew...we will be put into a gas chamber. Actually, we will be tear gassed to make sure we are confident with our gear. I'm pretty stoked about it!!"

He has a tatoo on his arm that he got on his 18th birthday while in school to study to be a minister that is Hebrew for "Chosen One". THAT one, he got a lot of crap about! Apparently positive self-esteem and individuality is NOT appreciated in BC....LOL

In one of his recent emails from sea, he wrote:
"I haven't had to take the motoin sickness pills since Friday. My first class threw up in the office and it woke me up from a nap.
I got to do my quallifications on one of the machine guns today up on the bridge. I felt like fuckn rambo. "

LOL...we never much liked him to play with guns when he was little, so I can TOTALLY see his face and feel the rapid heartbeat pounding in his chest.

And the most heartwarming so far was:
"Suprisngly, I sleep realy well when the ship rocks a lot. It makes me
feel like whenever I was having a bad day, you rocked me in the
recliner and it gives me peace. I love you all and I await all of the
adventures ahed of me."
No matter HOW old he was, or any of my kids, that recliner and my lap was a safe haven for them to spill their guts out.

I've copied some of your "funnies" from this thread and will be sending it to him. With the stress and pressure of being at sea, I'm SURE he and his shipmates will TOTALLY love reading them!
Thanks for letting me share!
My son sent this the other day "They give us stuff that makes us not have an erection. Im worried it will be permanent and never wear off. GOD HELP ME!"
Too Funny! There's a post a while up here from www.snopes.com that completely dispells that theory. Tell him he'll be JUST FINE and back to "normal" in due time and that's it's strictly a stress and fatigue thing. Poor baby!
I neverheard that but my son did say they put a mild laxitive in the food to keep them regular.
Mail call is like Christmas
"I am doing well!! I got food, clothing, a place to sleep, and I feel good and adjusted now." This was on the two lines at the end of the form letter. I still don't think she has "adjusted".
It's the "3 hots and a cot" mentality that my son always tells me about. Quite honestly, he said he welcomed the structure and routine of BC. Come around week three, they really DO become more adjusted to the lifestyle. Chin up, Vicky! She's probably more "adjusted" than you might think. I get SO excited talking to and hearing from moms that are awaiting PIR. It's the most profound experience you will EVER have with your child to date! Congratulations to your daughter and your family!!!
We just heard from our son today, his first line was " I am finally here... and I am still alive. They kept me up for 40 hours but at least the weather was nice...."
"The weather is nice"???? Seriously? He must be a northern boy!! I had to re-read your post to see if the letter was recent. LOL I'm from the GL area so I guess that since it's wasn't sub-zero temps, it could be considered "nice". Too funny!
No, believe it or not he is from Florida! Not sure what he meant by snow and cold being nice. I had to smile though.
Another favortite of mine was my scalp has almost healed...it must be time for another haircut.
I love these. I am sitting here laughing and laughing! I have so much material in her letters...
