Navy For Moms

These are some lines from letters my son wrote that bought on the waterworks.

" mom,why do you keep telling me how proud of me you are,it brings tears to my eyes and I am trying not to show it in front of the other guys".But I still love hearing it from you.

" And it keeps me driving on,waiting on letters from home"

" mom,I know I gave you some hard times when I was in school, thought I knew it all,but now that I am away from you it made me realize what a great mom you are and i just want to say thank you for putting up with me and caring enough to keep on me about doing the right things.

Tina, Wow, what a great Idea. Thanks for sharing.I have been thinking about the upcoming holidays too and I am thinking this year it will be one of my hardest to get through.I have 3 children,my oldest daughter lives on her own,my son in the navy and we have one at home in her senior year of highschool. But I know Christmas morning I will be bawling my eyes out at not having all 3 of them at home to share Christmas morning with us.He is going to Pensacola Florida after bc for water rescue training and I want to find out if they can get video's from home as we would like to make one for the holidays with a message from his family, especially for Christmas.

HAVE A HEART LADIES! I'm running out of fingers to dry my tears on ! HA! What great sentiments -love 'em! I have no doubts my own lad will write such things when he is in BC, as he is a sensitive soul anyway. He bought ME a going away gift today with money he won at Bingo we went to the other night. I collect Charming Tails figurines and he just added the newest one -very cute. He even got a gift for his Dad, who is also his step-father, who adopted him and his sister when we got married 8 years ago. 2 days and he is off to BC and he is but, I am not ready. UGH! Soon enough I'll write each day and like the rest of you -look forward to those few calls & letters. He says he probably won't write much - uh huh sure he won't! We'll see! Tis sure he has no clue just how much he'll miss home - even as dysfunctional as we may seem to be!
I can't wait!

This is a very touching letter and it made me teary eyed. You can't help but feel the tenderness in his
words. So genuine and sincere. I know your proud of your son.

Elizabeth,Thank You.I am very proud of him.My heart Just swells with pride.he is due to graduate on 10/31 and I have about been a basket case this last week. The anticipation buildup makes you sort of over excited and antsy. My husband jokes and tells me-if you don't stop thinking about it so much your going to have an anxiety attack, lol. But after no phone calls this whole time I just can't wait to get my arms around him.It can be pretty rough on the emotions at times.

You have to remember anything from home makes them more homesick but keep the letters to him. Our family wrote our son everyday during basic, he told me that he'd tear up every letter but still needed to hear from home. It gets better as time goes on.

Patty,

How long (after entering boot camp) did you receive letter like this? My son is gone about 2 1/2 weeks and I am still waiting for him to realize he has family here. I heard from some of his friends that he has been writing up a storm to them, but so far I have only received 2 letters, and short one at that. I have been writing every day and hope to hear something other than what the food is like and that he got a"peanut butter butt shot". I DO appreciate the short letters because it is all I have heard so far. I am still waiting for him to get a clue about his family. See,s he has forgotten about his father and brother too!! Oh well, I know he must be up to his eye balls in alligators!, but...... Ok, good luck to you and your son.

Cathi, It only took about 4 weeks.Once boot camp really started setting in I think he really started to miss home and everything about it.He and I have always had a pretty close relationship and i write all the letters to him so I think he realized just how much he means to me and how much I love him and appreciates it more now.Tonight I'm feeling pretty bad tho,I haven't had any phone calls except the got there one(7 weeks) and i was at work and he called and I missed it.He only had 5 minutes and got to talk to his dad and younger sister though so I'm just glad someone was here when he called.

This wasn't in Chris's letters home, but the day after he left, I checked his Myspace, and his "My Heroes" spot said "My mom, my step-dad, the firefighters of 9/11, and Michael Phelps".

Yes, I cried buckets.
