Change in A school

If his rate is going to be IT, I can tell you that "A" school is NOT at Great Lakes. I think it is down in P-cola.

Christine. If his a-school has changed either he asked for the change, or they just asked him because there is a need. In any case, Fl. is much nicer in Dec than Chicago, believe me! LOL. If you are going to PIR and he is Grad and go. You can go out to O'hare and be with him untill he boards, just get his gate and flight number and tell the guys at security that your son is Navy and they will give you both a pass to stay with him untill he boards.
My husband found this out on Navy Dads.com. from several of the Dads. They have god resturants at O'hare, and you can sit and have a meal, or maybe dessert together. Hope this helps a little??? Don't you love they way the give you small bits of info and no explanation??? LMAO

Just to add to the confusion--- some rates have to take an ATT (advanced technical training) course before they start A school, and that course can be taken at GL. My son's A school wll be in San Diego, but he stayed in GL after boot camp for this ATT course. He was originally told that he would go to San Diego right after BC. They get their "orders" shortly before graduation, so he should be able to tell you very soon exactly what his orders are.

It's the same thing with my son. He'll be grad. 10.31. They said the whole time he would be going to Pensecola (AZ) and he was thrilled since most of his friends from home that inlisted were going there too. Now I got a letter last week he's going to Meridian. I don't know why it has been changed. He also is doing great at boot camp. I guess I'll find out after graduation.
I've been told Penecola is very nice, strict by what some have said but they like it there.

the same here. PIR date 10-31. The whole time he was to go to Pensicola for AM and now he is staying at GL for some one week training and then may go one of six places (which he didn't tell me what they were).....

My son is IT, he is in Pensacola for A school.....so, if he's still IT that is where he'd be going....

My son in law enlisted with one job and A school promised and that has been changed during his recruit training. He has a rate change and a new job now. I do not know any other details yet.

A lot of aviation a schools is in Pensacola.Other A schools is at great lakes. But there are differant a schools that is located at othe bases too.

Christine - congrats on your Sailor. Just remember that everything is hurry up and wait. My son started at BC wanting to be air rescue but decided he didn't like being in the water that much. So his second choice was ITS. Once he graduated BC he stayed in Great Lakes for a couple of months for classes and then was sent down to Pensacola when classes finally opened up. (No they never have a lot of advance notice.) He finished A school there during this same time last year and really loved the weather much better than Chicago. He is now an Aviation Tech stationed at Whibey Island, WA and is really enjoying being stateside.

My son was in Meridan for A school for AZ. The web site used to say Pensicola, but it changed to Meridian a while ago and just didn't change it on the web site. Maybe that is where the confusion came from.
