My son ordered me the pictures, DVD and a "year book for himself" the whole thing is like $300. Your sailor has to order it though and you will receive paperwork along with the PIR information explaining all this. The money has to come right from their acct's.
My son paid about $150 for his package and yearbook. He didn't buy the DVD but did purchase a Navy frame for the 10 X13 portrait. I think the least expensive package is at least $100. All of the packages include the big 10 X 13. My son was so proud of that. I would rather have a nicely matted 5 X 7 but I have proudly hung the big one in my living room. Most of these recruits aren't accustomed to having extra $ to spend and go overboard with the photo package. They're so proud though and this is a way to document their accomplishment. Enjoy.

I got both the sailors creed and the anchors away for my mom. They are really nice.
Just a suggestion but... I told my son when he asked if he should get pictures not to have them done there, and when he came home I took him and both uniforms (white & Navy) to my local studio and had them done with several different poses that included the Flag in the background as well. They turned out so much better and if i didn't like them i didn't have to get them, i only paid for what i wanted. I couldn't see him spending his money on pictures we may not like.
Tracy: Kirsten has the packages listed here for you I see.

I just wanted to add that my son took great pride in having his photo taken at BC and ordering them for us...It is a big sense of pride, choices and responsibilities that they have when they do this. The pictures from the Navy BC are very good quality. They also include the entire Division picture which is really nice... My son had even a picture of them in their blues just hanging out... It is a great treasure in my opinion. If he decides to order them he should have them fed ex to your home so that he doesn't have to carry them at PIR nor do you have to travel back with them.... The pictures arrive at your house about 1 to 1 and 1/2 weeks before they graduate...

I hope this is helpful....
My son ordered the division photo, an 8 x 10, a couple of 5 x 7's and a whole slew of wallets, plus the DVD (we couldn't be at his PIR so the DVD was very important). He didn't bother with the "Keel" yearbook, he said it was "cheesy"......I hope he doesn't regret not getting it. The absolute best thing was the oak frame with the words to "Anchors Aweigh" on the left-hand side, a gold anchor embossed over them, and a space on the right-hand side for his photo. He said the frame was "pricey" ($32?) but he thought it was very handsome (it is). He was very proud to have ordered the pictures and paid for them himself. He felt it was payback for all of the money we'd spent on school pictures over the years! His girlfriend went to his PIR and brought everything home for us.

The kids compare notes about the different packages so I'm sure he'll do the right thing.
I got the yearbook. He might regret not getting it. I am very glad I got it. It has everyone in your division and your borther division. Your rdc's and things you did at bootcamp. It also has all the pictures that someone came in a took of the divisons interacting...
I'd like to echo Lizzette's comments - my son, too, was very proud of having his pictures done at Boot Camp. He bought EVERYTHING and couldn't wait to share them with family and friends! I offered to help with the expense as I was able to (and I realize that not everyone has that option, so I am sensitive to financial need.) I'd suggest purchasing whatever you are comfortable with. I'm really glad my son got the DVD, as once those doors rolled open, I started crying and spent the next 2 hours just staring at my son:-) I missed most of what was going on with the ceremony so it was nice to have it to see again - ha. The yearbook was nice too. My feeling was (and is) that my son will only be in Boot Camp once and I wanted to have a nice picture of him at that point in his life. I'm so glad we did purchase the pictures, as its been a year and my son will be graduating from an A school soon and it was be so interesting to see his next picture - how he has grown! PNM of Jacob
By the way....

Your Recruits will receive the pictures and any frames that they order while they are in GL... I was a little stunned when my Sailor handed me five boxes of frames and said here - take these home with you... I only had a carry on bag, so ended up going to wal-mart for a box and some shipping supplies.

We were quite the sight on the floor of the Navy Lodge cutting up this box so 3 of the 5 boxes would fit inside. I ended up checking my suitcase, putting 2 of the smaller frames in my first carry on tote, and hand carried the box with the other frames.

Just something to keep in mind!! 8-)

AND... believe it or not - out of all of those frames, I still don't have one for the 10x13 - anyone know how I could order the frame for that? (I've asked my Sailor to get me one, but that hasn't happened. I don't know if they carry them in all the NEX's).
I would strongly suggest any sailor get the Keel and the DVD along with the group and individual pictures. The keel is "cheesy" with very few pictures from the actual Div and the DVD is low quality BUT get it please!

That keel may seem like its not worth much, but imagine what it will be worth someday. An example is from my own experience: My father was a Sailor years ago, I don't think I have seen his keel more than a couple times in my life. He was very proud however to dig out that old yearbook (quality is about the same now) when his grandson came home on leave for the first time. Seeing Grandpa and Grandson compare Keel's and chat proudly of the experiences of boot camp and beyond made that Keel worth more than you can imagine.

So tell your recruits to get it please, years from now they may have a child or grandchild to share it with.
