Please do not ask another member to ask their recruit to add any guests to their Access List. This is against RTC Policy and has been addressed on their FB page several times in the last month...so I thought it would bear repeating on here.

I say repeating because it has been addressed on this site as early as 2008:

http://www.navyformoms.com/profiles/blogs/admin-update-members-must...

This an excerpt from the link above that addresses this:

Hello N4M Members!
Important stuff here and I need everyone to read it. We’ll be enforcing some new rules starting today per direction of the Navy. No need to get upset or panic… okay? I like to call this the growing pains of getting bigger and needing to become a bit stricter about a few things.

1. So, Navy saw it as a breach of security on N4M’s when members were telling other members how to bend and break the rules (IE get into PIR w/o a parking pass). Thus, any tricks like that can’t be talked about. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our recruits. This also includes, “I have more than 4 people that want to attend PIR”. If we see that question- the response should be something like:
“Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL is the homeport for all Navy recruit training. If you have specific questions regarding Boot Camp, Pass-in-Review (graduation) or a recruit, please visit http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/index.html.  (This link does not work...here is the correct one:  http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp )If you cannot find the answer there, please phone RTC Public Affairs on 847-688-2405 or email on rtc.pao@navy.mil.”

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command : I am new to the navy family and this question seems to come up a lot. I know that the Policies are changing for PIR. My Question is this: If someone only has 2 people that can come to PIR can the SR invite 2 other people and put them on the list if it is another SR that is in his or her DIV and SHIP? Please clarify this as this seems to be the hot topic. Thank you very much for responding.

  • U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Ma'am, while this is something that some recruits may have chosen to do, they are instructed not to do so. It is against RTC policy, and compromises safety procedures that we have put in place. If we are able to determine that guests do not belong to the recruit they are placed under, they will not be allowed access to PIR. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Navy's only boot camp!

Does this mean there is no way to obtain an extra ticket?  My niece's recruiter told her that we could show up at 6 a.m. and be put on a list.  We are traveling from West Virginia and would just like to know if her uncle will be admitted.  Thank you.

Since it appears that there are 15 divisions in the 11/30/2012 TG, I suspect that the RTC will say that there will be NO extra guests for that PIR.

They recently did that for a TG with 14 divisions.

BTW, I see you have joined the group for PIR; you may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here.

Thanks so much!  I saw an earlier post from you on the pir reference info page......it said retired, active military and veterans did not need to be placed on the guest list.  The post was from last year some time.  Is this true?  If that is the case both my sister and her husband are Navy veterans.  That would work out : )

There's Navy vets (I'm one) and then Navy retirees who have an ID card.  I'm guessing only the ones with the blue ID card are not going to need to be on the list.  Vets who served but did not serve long enough to retire don't have issued military ID.   I don't think the VIC health care card counts.   Maybe a DD213 would do?

Thanks.  Glad to be on here lots of info : )  Probably just active and retired military.

You are right AntiM and Jamie...Retired and Active with valid ID.

Here is the link to RTC Websites:

Active Duty Military Personnel/Retirees Information Page. It spells out the policy for the Access List and then it has a FULL page of protocol for dress etc. Good info for the other branches to know :-)

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ad_military_retirees.asp (direct clickable link)

I thought that I went back and clarifed any comments I have previusly made that included the word veteran after the RTC revised what they had previously posted.  Now only currently serving Active Duty Military personnel or Retired Military Personnel with a valid (current) Active Duty/Retired military ID card as well as children age 12 and under can get in without being on the Access List. (See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ad_military_retirees.asp and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide.pdf.)

Thanks for clearing that up.  Trying to do anything to get my husband in there lol.

The policy has changed since this was posted and now everyone age 3 and over must be on the Access List to attend. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v14Mar2013.pdf.

You can do that, but it's like flying standby at the airport... You show up, you get on that list. Then, once everyone who was already on the guest list (the up to 4 per Recruit list) is checked in, as there's room, they will admit the people on the extra guest list. There may or may not be room for him, it would be a gamble. However, he would be able to hang out with you all and your Sailor while she's on liberty :-)

EXTRA GUESTS -

We are hearing reports from Members of the 10/26 PIR group who have called PAO and asked about extra guests. Those that have called (there have been several) said that NO extra guests were going to be allowed at this PIR or ever again. 10/26 is a 7 Division TG.

The policy of Children 12 and under and Retired/Active Military with valid ID is still in place as far as the aforementioned guests NOT being required to be on the Access List and NOT counting towards the four alloted guests.

However, we have not see ANY official statement about this. I know they do not have to do that but the problem that I see is that stipulations for additional guests are still included on the FAQ on the RTC Website and the RTC FB site. So pointing folks towards those sites is going to conflict with what we are "hearing".

From the RTC Website http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/faq_family.asp  FAQS FOR FAMILIES/FRIENDS Last Modified 8/6/2012

Q.
How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?
A.

Recruits are permitted to place up to four names on the access list. Please coordinate with your Recruit as only Recruits may place names on the list. RTC can neither change these names nor release the names of those on the list. Children age 12 and younger do not need to be listed on the access list and will not count toward the maximum number of guests. Active Duty and Retired military personnel will not count toward the maximum number of guests and do not need to be listed on the access list, but must present a valid Active Duty/Retired military ID card. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. All guests 18 years and older, must present valid government issued photo identification (driver’s license, state ID card, passport, military ID card). Guests 17 years or younger who do not possess one the items listed above must present one of the following: school ID card, driver’s permit, copy of their birth certificate or social security card. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE NAMES OF OUR GUESTS WHO WILL ATTEND GRADUATION?

You will need to write to your recruit as the recruits are the only ones who can make any changes to the names of the guests to be included on the access list. They must do so about a week prior to graduation. Any guest not on the access list is considered an additional guest and will need to wait at the visitors center to see if additional seating is available. Children 12 years old and younger and active duty/retired military members with proper military ID do not need to be on the access list.

So, right now we only have what is on the RTC sites and what has been reported to members as a result of calling PAO.

Don't shoot me please, I am just the messenger...I don't "know" any more than you all do. Sometimes things get implemented, but take a while to get officially posted.

I don't like posting when I don't have a concrete answer ( IOW...from the "horses mouth") but I doubt that RTC will give me an answer as I do not have a recruit in BC. Which is understandable.

This is all about security folks. RTC is a restricted base even those who have DoD (Department of Defense)stickers for their vehicles from other Bases MUST have a Vehicle Gate Pass for their vehicle to come on board RTC. All bases are "basically" restrited in this sense that personnel have stickers for their car to be able to drive their vehicle onto the base. Then they must also have proper ID. Military and then contractors have badges etc.

(P.S. Any military personnel, correct me if I got it wrong :-)...just tryin' to help.)
