Navy For Moms

my sons orders for A school were submitted incorrectly by his detailer. he held on for months, being patient. detailer admitted mistake way back when. when re-submitted, this time correctly ???(only god knows), he was told that there is no longer any funding due to government cutbacks. we know of others who have been told they are going to A school. would like to get to the "real facts" on this issue. I am concerned re my sons education, and this could be a real problem (of course).
he got congrats and the whole nine yards from everyone on his ship....and now months later, he is still at the same base w/ people asking "why is he stll there?"--anyone having similar problem?

Wow - that must be rough!!! Sorry, I can't help. What is he going to A school for?

Is he just finishing up BC? I can't believe they are not sending him through to A School. has to be a mistake, if they are still recruiting What is he doing for the the Navy? it could be that it is taking longer then the norm. hummm, have you talked to his recruiter? Who is the Detailer, and what is his job? Tamie

Tami, a detailer is the person who coordinates orders. The recruiter wouldn't have much info or influence to correct this

I am wondering why people always say to talk tot he recruiter? The recruiter has NO influance on what happens to a Sailor once they leave to go to BC. The can get you the recruites address in bootcamp.

is this person in great lakes or in the fleet/

Currently there is a hold on all PCS orders due to lack of funding for moving. This is across the board, they aren't singling out anyone in particular. This happens often, but usually in September.

Sit tight, he's still getting paid.

thanx y'allllll!! he finished bc in 07...got deployed...is back @ base...he's an E4 AZ3. (petty officer/aviation).
I am just frustrated becuz this wasn't his mistake, but it is affecting his career. this just wouldnt wash in the corporate world, but for some reason it seems to be accepted here. It just makes me mad when these children of ours sign up to protect our country, and suddenly when things get messed up..we are expected to not inquire and simply accept. BS. someone messed up and I am mad, let the navy put me on detention.

the frustration just keeps mounting...when he was a civilian and the company he was employed with found out he had enlisted...he got fired..immediately..that nite, over the phone "do not report to work tomorrow"..so he spent a few months w/o $$...I am pretty sure thats illegal, but I think basically he didnt want that kind of attention drawn to him because of his hearts commitment to our country, and didnt want anything to ruin that.
then in the barracks..there was theft (camera, watch, foreign currency, and who knows what else..) and when he reported it, the person (to whom he was reporting) became angry that he reported it to her...(give me a break).
dont even get me started on drycleaning problems...(ok, I am trying to lighten up here..,,but these were real too).
this is an easy going kid...(sorry, adult)...and we have very loving family members where he is based.
ok, I am venting here.
I just REALLY REALLY dont get it. I know I've gone off topic here, but none of this makes sense.
meanwhile, he is the calm & cool headed one. I guess I am just doing one of those "WHY?, becuz I am the mom & its my job" things.
thanx for listening.

Annie, i am so sorry your son is going through this.

I have to tell you....you are feeling EVERYTHING i am, i LOVED WHAT YOU WROTE!! My son is currently in NY at Nuke prototype, was suppose to graduate back in Oct....still there and every couple weeks is told he'll be there longer!!!

I agree...this wold not fly in the cooperate world!!! My son is the calm and collected one also!!!

I just don't want these Sailors to become discourage and then get into "trouble" because they are just wanting to release some pent up energy and frustration!!!

My prayers are with you and your son. Keep us posted!!!

thanx gayle!...i am originally from upstate ny..so right there, I understand your frustration..j/k..I grew up there n love the state, specially july 30 thru august 12th..(summer). lol.

october for him, november for mine....this just IS NOT RIGHT. my son is frustrated, altho I think he can manage it.
I dont want these sailors to get discouraged either....IS ANYONE LISTENING? the recruitment program is so encouraging....in fact, my son's is right across the cul-de-sac...n no, he hasnt responded to my concerns either. how can they recruit...w/ whats going on (politically)?

I wish the navy and all military and all college campuses would have a mom/nurse on site. theres just stuff out there that need a support person, readily available.

I really want to be supportive, I have to.

This is nothing new. Part of the Navy is learning to roll with the punches. As much as we think our sailors (children) are special and deserve what we think is fair treatment, they are not being singled out, not being cheated, not being treated less fairly than any other sailor. The Navy moves at her own pace for the good of the service, not for the individual sailor.

dear achseh, thanx for your response. I dont believe he has been singled out. I never thought this was personally directed, so I am not sure I can follow your course of unfair treatment. his detailer screwed up, my sons career is affected by this...and the detailer goes on w/o any change in the wind.
roll w/ the punches.............sure!...life goes on, we accomodate. I absolutely understand the pace of any US military re the good of the service..for the love of God, this is why our children joined.
I am upset w/ the detailer, and no corrective action.

It's hurry up and wait... my husband has been in CT since septemeber and isn't grad, until july and now he is on hold b/c of lack of funding until oct... There are a lot of things people dont realize when joining the navy, example : this.... hurry up and wait goes for everything. b/c of funding issues my husband wont even be able to pick a dream sheet... is he flipping out about it like this, no... he is going to be stuck here in CT bc of all this and he isn't complaining about it b/c he knows the navy is a lot of hurry up and wait and pushing things back and making classes longer than they are supposed to be etc.. Regardless if the detailer messed up his prders or not, i'm sure it isn't the first and won't be the last time, I understand your frustrations however it IS the navy an they aren't going to bend the rules just to try to make someone happy. They go at their own pace and there is no going around that. My husband has been on hold 3 times between classes you think he likes it, no but he knows thats the navys way of life.
