Navy For Moms

Kelly

Any advise for us. Josh is getting ready for the ASVAB in 2 weeks. What should I do to get ready?

I'm releaved he chose the Navy, as he doesn't want to kill people, but support our Naval force and get trained as a fire fighter. He may want to be a Fireman when he returns in 4 years. We are hoping it will give him a leg up on other's interested in becomming a Fireman. A lot can change in 4 yeas though.

My son took them and scored in the 90's he was estatic. This was the kid who said I can't take tests so I am going in the navy. PLEASE! You really can't help him but the recruiter sure can. Does he or you have a good repore with him/her. Read the books and a lot of it is common sense.
Don't put to much pressure on him and guess what if he does not like his scores, he can always re take them! Best of luck to you and your son.

Hello my son scored very high on the ASVAB he leaves for the Navy in August of next year if he doesn't make the NROTC scholarship program. He pretty much said that English and Math on the ASVAB is very important to study. My son is a senior at Northshore Senior High School in Houston Texas. Good luck to your son.

Hi I was a recruiter for 8 years, and I was hard on the young men and women that I work with. I demanded they give 100% on everything they did including taking the ASVAB. So here is my advice: Remember how your son does on this test is going to play a big part in the job opportunities he is going to have. Since I don't know your son I can't speculate how well he will do. I do know that the Navy requires a 35 on the ASVAB to join. My minimum was 50. But I always made it about the applicant's ability not a certain score. That means if I had a young man or women score a 70 on the practice test then I would look for that person to score around the mid 80's on the ASVAB. Now if your son score's above a 65 he will probably qualify for any Job, but I never lived by that rule because if I had a young person score a 65 with no effort then 65 was not good enough. Remember most of these young people are going to be a part of the Navy's Delayed Entry Program till they go to Boot Camp. It was my job to prepare them to for success in the Navy, not to just be a part of it. Ok enough on that. I did alot of research on different ASVAB study guides out there. What I came up with is:
{ Passkey to the ASVAB by Barrons - cost $8.99 ) If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. And good luck I hope I was able to help.
