Navy For Moms

Just wanted to let everyone know so they don't have the same problem. My son got a cell phone while in boot camp from T-mobile.He was told it could be put on hold while he was deployed. He is in Japan. Well I can't get ahold of him I have been getting bills for a phone that is not being used. I have tried to call them for 3 months in a row now. They will not take the charges off will not help because I am not authorized on his account. I don't want his credit to be bad. But I am not paying $95.00 month for something that isn't being used.

How does one get a phone during boot campand be able to keep it?  My son has been deployed many times and each time his phone has gone into sispension.  Not having to pay for the lenght of the deployment.  Do you have an POA from your son, if you do it doesnt matter if you are on the account or not.  It might be cheaper to break the contract then pay every month.  Go into a T moble store, some time doing things in person gets things done.  Did your son tell them he was being deployed and for what lenght of time.  Is he deployed or are his orders to Japan to different things.  Is ther someway he can contact T mobile him self.

They can't get a cell phone during bootcamp.

didn't think so. can any of the Military branches???????/
I only know about the Navy, I highly doubt the other branches are allowed to go shopping and get a cell phone though during bootcamp or even keep a phone on them during that time frame. Witht he expection of the Air Force, they do things a little differenlty.
I wonder if diana meant he got the cell phone during A school
AF recruits seem to be able to have cell phones. My daughters ex was always calling/texting
Yep, Air Force is really different than any other branch.

I know for a fact Marines don't keep one...nah, letters only for 13 weeks, not even calls home....

But also have a friend's son who just went through Army basic training and they were allowed to keep their cell phone, but typically could only make calls on the weekends.

Sorry that you're having these kind of troubles.  When you are able to get a hold of your son have him call them and authorize you to make changes to his account on his behalf.

Do you know if he set up his account online?  If not, use his information to set one up.   If he did, do you have access to his email then maybe you can get a "forgot password" link and make the changes that way?

When my Sailor Boy came back from his first underway he asked me to reactivate the phone because he didn't even have internet service.  I tried to do it online but  he couldn't remember his password.  I called the customer service line (AT&T) bright and early the next morning and was able to get it activated even though I wasn't on the account - she assumed that I was his wife and I didn't correct her  8-)  I also had all of the identifying info they required.

Good luck.

Well thankyou for the responces.I stand corrected about the cell phone I believe he did get it between bootcamp & A school .They took trips to Gurnee Mall & Chicago during weekend breaks & many of them got cell phones then to use. I did get an e-mail back from my son finally ,he is going to try to call the toll free # from the ship when he gets a chance to straighten this out. He had put a suspension on it while he was deployed but they just started sending bills again after a year. It is suppost to be on hold for up to 39 months when he returns. He was to get me a power of attorny while he is out of the country ,but.. I don't know if he did. He is a good kid but I'm sure you all know sons are not perfect& don't always do everything they should. Some of you missed my point. I wanted to let people know to check with your sons so you don"t have to go through this.

Thank you, Diana, for the warning.  i'm sure between my dd & ds, it's very likely i could have to go through this.

i'll be sure to get a POA for both of them, too!!

When you day deployed do mean his orders were for over seas?  deployemnts don't last 39 months
