Did anyones child leave for Great Lakes yesterday, Tuesday, January 13th?

I would love to hear from you! My oldest and only daughter left for GL yesterday and I'm having a very hard time with the sadness. If anyone has someone arriving the same day, please let me know.

My oldest daughter left today. She was supposed to leave yesterday but couldn't because of a blizzard. Got that "I'm here" phone call about 15 minutes ago. Missing her already.

My only son just arrived there yesterday. He is 26 and not married, I know the feeling of sadness that you are experiencing, I am worried. Don't really know when graduation is so we can make reservations to go. I have found the movie "Carrier" put on by PBS. The 2 episodes that I watched today on the internet was i openning for me. He is planning on Aviation mechanics training after bootcamp but who knows if that will really transpire of change, I just have this empltiness and loss of control to be there for him. Sounds silly for a young man of 26 huh?

My Finace left for Great Lakes on the 13th! I hated the last phone call saying I wouldn't hear from him for almost 30 days :(
Im dieing for an address, the package is supposed to be coming and I am hoping an address is in there!.Your daughter will be fine - if she made the decision to do this, she must be a strong and intelligent girl! I have many relatives and friends in every branch of the service. I hope you are doing better today and when you get an address please let me know as I will definitly message you if I get one!

I spoke with her recruiter this morning and I should have the address tomorrow. I still don't know if it is different depending on which part you're in or if it is one general mail address. I will let you know as soon as I find out. Thank you for the encouragement!!!! What is he going to do in the Navy and how long will he be gone? ARe you waiting until he's out to get married? That has to be very, very difficult! My heart goes out to you!

Hi Renee and Ronda and Bekkah and Connie - my daughter arrived tuesday the 13th too, and I'm anxious for her address as well. I posted just a moment ago, but it hasn't shown up, so sorry if I end up with a double post! My daughter is 19 and the middle child of three. She will be in crypto school after bootcamp. Hi Patty,

Where do you live in Kansas? I live in Kansas City. What is your daughter's name? When I am able to write I will see if Ashley has met her. Was it a surprise that your daughter wanted to go in the Navy or had she planned it for a long time? I'm going on 3 days now without any sleep. I just can't stop worrying and thinking about her being afraid or alone.

Hi Renee,
God I hear you about the no-sleep. I am just west of the metro, in a little town called DeSoto, KS. Ashley was at KU for a year, and after the start of her sophomore year, she just didn't connect with staff, teachers, career path, all of the above. In middle school she dreamed of being in the Navy, but I thought it was fleeting (no pun intended). When she started struggling in October, at work, two Navy guys came in and really talked it up to her. They said what she wanted to hear, so she came home from school, told us she dropped out of college, and had already been to the recruiters 5 times!!! She did her homework before dropping the news on us. We were beaming with pride, I jumped for joy. I really did. She comes from a long line of military people, grandpas both in the airforce, and her daddy in the army national guard. I am less worried about Ashley in the Navy than I was with her at KU!!! Where are you located in KC?

Renee, My youngest son shipped on Jan. 13. I can relate to how you feel also, like my heart was totally ripped out...to make it worse he just got married a few months ago and boy were we ALL having a tough time. He has never been away from me more than a phone call. I just stumbledd onto this site and I hope it will help to ease some of the tears and hurt. Keep your head up and I guess we just need to write letters everyday for all of us to feel better, we have to stay strong for them especially. Pray alot and hang in there. Talk to you another time...Wanda

Wow, that is really tough! What is his new wife doing? Where do you live? I'm hurting really bad and having a lot of trouble focusing. I'm supposed to get a mailing address for GL tomorrow and will send letters. My whole family is praying for my daughter Ashley and I will begin to pray for all of the young adults in GL now. Hang in there and contact me anytime you need a shoulder to lean on.
