Do you remember the day that you got the call? Hi Mom I'm officially a sailor.

I was at school with a class of kindergarteners when I got the call one year ago yesterday the 16th. He sounded oh so tired but elated just the same. It was especially memorable as his dad has passed away 7 years to the day that he started battlestations. It bothered him more than he thought and the RDC's were wonderful and completely understanding. Said he did it for his dad and himself. Tears again on 11-21-07 when Div 004 PIR'd. What were you doing?

OMG isn't that funny, I don't think I will ever forget that day! I have never been a scrapebook person, but now it seems to be my life. I want hi orders, pictures from every place he visits and etc. I want his kids to see what their Dad did for all of us!

It was last year on Christmas Eve! He was soooo happy and the best part was the pride in himself. On Christmas Day he was allowed to call several times as his division was taken to a restaurant where they were treated like kings. There have been ups and downs since then but more positives than negatives. In less than a year he has already been to 5 different states and is now in GTMO, Cuba! When he said he wanted to join the Navy to be able to see the world, he wasn't kidding!!

I think of that call at least once a week, I was sitting in the hotel room 5 minutes from Great Lakes (day before PIR) talking to my sister (she accompanied me to Great Lakes) about what we had to in order to be ready for the next day. We were also talking about our evening plans when I got my phone call. I cried like a baby. I was so happy to hear his voice, yes it was tired sounding but I could hear the pride in his voice. I didn't stay on the phone long because I wanted him to call his dad, sister and grandmother, who were at home in Florida and I know he wanted to make a few calls to some of his friends. I swelled with pride knowing that I had helped him achieve his dream of becoming a sailor. To me that phone call was a thank you from him for all that I had done for him through his life.

Hi, I'm brand new to this website, but had to reply to this one... I got that call last Wednesday, 11/12/08. I was at work and just happened to have my cell phone in my pocket. I couldn't believe it when I answered the phone and it was my son! He was so proud of himself, and I was so proud of him!

I could tell he was exhausted (he'd been up for over 32 hours at that point) but he wanted to talk until his phone card ran out of time. We talked about what he'd been through over the last 8 weeks, and about our plans for PIR and the weekend. We talked for over 30 minutes, which flew by... he got the notice that he had a minute left, and reminded me what he wanted me to bring for the weekend, and said "I love you, Mom" I couldn't stop grinning... He sounded so good! It was a very unproductive afternoon as all of my coworkers had to hear all about it. ;)

I saw him march in at PIR on 11/14/08 and couldn't believe my eyes. He looked so much more mature than he had when he left home... It's just amazing what a difference 8 weeks can make! We had a wonderful weekend, and he just amazed me the whole time with how much he's grown as a man. By the way, I'm still grinning! ;)

I will never forget this call. We were driving to Great Lakes for graduation. Like everyone says, he sounded tired but relieved. I was so proud of him.

We were at GL, just arrived, and decided to take a dry run to find the base so we wouldn't have to worry about getting lost on the way to graduation. It was about 4:30 p.m. We were just about to drive by the gate and my cell phone rang. It was him. He sounded so sick I was convinced that he was calling to say he gave it his all but was too sick to make it. No such thing, he passed. He was a SAILOR!! He was exhausted, sick and tired but he made it. It took all my inner strength not to wrestle the wheel away from my husband to turn into the base and go through the gate, but I thought better and didn't do it. LOL. He started battlestations on his 19th birthday, finished it on the day his Grandfather (my father) passed away. He had no idea Grandpa was dying. We told him after PIR.

I remember like it was yesterday.

My Daughter was very sick also when she called me to say she passed battlestations, I was at the airport waiting for my flight to Great Lakes, when she called to tell me she a Sailor, I was grinning from ear to ear from pride, but also wanted to cry because she was so sick and exhausted, she sounded miserable. But all is well now and she's in Pensacola.

OMG I WAS A NERVOUS RECK ALL DAY ON 11/10/08. I was scouring the PIR 11/14/08 GROUP seeing who had gotten calls and chating in another navy chat room with all the support group for PIR 11/14/08 saying when is the phone going to ring and as I was typing that WHEN my cell rang with the magic 847 area code showing up...I could not answer it fast enough. My son who as a sick sense of humor sometimes tried to play a trick on me and tell me he did not make it...I told him if you are not lying that I was going to have a heart attack...Then he said Mom "your baby is a United States Navy Sailor...look at me I am crying again remembering those words..We talked for about 45 minutes and it was the best conversation a mother and son could have...He landed today in Missouri for his Seabee EO A school. HOOYAH...

I got the call on Wednesday 11/12/08 the day before I left for PIR. I was so excited to hear from him...he said "Mom, your son is a Sailor" I was so proud, it makes me tear up just thinking about it again. He was so excited, I got to talk to him for 45 minutes & he talked non-stop. I'm going to be doing a scrapbook as well and I have never done one either. I'm a single mom and went to PIR by myself and we had the best time together. I have never been prouder of him.
