Navy For Moms

My son said that sometime near July 4th Obama wants to change the oath. It is to say loyalty to the President. After 200 + years I don't see why he's trying to take Congress out of the picture. Has anyone heard of this one. If they change the oath will everyone have to reswear in. If my son won't swear in to a loyalty to the President what could happen?

Thanks

Ask your son to refrain from passing on rumors.

The article in question is total satire.

Hoppi,

Actually my son brought it up on the internet and showed me. That's why I asked if anyone else had heard anything. So my son wasn't passing rumors.

Yes, your son was passing rumors. Or maybe pulling your leg. The simple fact that you asked, "Has anyone heard of this one", indicates that even you had your doubts about the validity of this piece of nonsense.

Just because something is on the internet DOES NOT make it true. The internet is full of rumors, satire, spoofs, urban legends, etc. Just go out to The Onion and check the latest headline, "Congress Passes Amendment Guaranteeing Right To Chicken Done Right". Do you really think this is true? Of course not.

The site Hoppi pointed to, http://www.snopes.com/, is your greatest resource for separating truth from bunk. Anytime you hear something a little off kilter or get a chain email making wild claims, head for Snopes. Please do your research before bringing a wild rumor here and spreading it to another 20,000+ Moms.

I have not heard of that, but I wouldn't doubt it. And I know for sure my son would not swear to that. Good question, maybe an honorable discharge?

What a load of crap. No-one in their right mind would believe anything so stupid.

Lady.

Thank you for the website. I will most definetly check it out. It was news to me, but then who really listens to the news 24/7. The Senate and Congress work until wee hours of the night when they want to pass something without everyone knowing it. So again thank you.

WOW, can remember what this site is for and supposed to be about. Why don't you just all jump down her throat. Navywoman asked a questions stating her son mentioned it to her..... HOW IS THAT SPREADING RUMORS??? Internet articles do not seem to have much validity anymore but all she said was she read it too. Been involved in the military scene for way to long to believe or even think everyone with power tells the truth. PLEASE.

Navywoman, thank you for asking instead of spreading unknown facts, at your Sailor reads. We are all supposed to be on the same side. No wonder why so many people are leaving this site, to many Professors not enough students anymore. The site was supposed to help unknown moms, not to make them feel bad for asking. I took total offense to some of your responses.

There will always be rumors and it's up to each individual to check the validity of something out before passing it along. Snopes.com is a wonderful resource that I recommend anyone use before passing along something such as this.

Asking here is a good idea, too. As far as too many professors, if you only had students, there would be no reason to be here. Support is one thing, good information is another. This site has thankfully evolved to include good information and not only a place to vent. Too many times those who have 'been there, done that' have shared useful information and experience only to be yelled at for their delivery.

Navywoman has her own military experience to draw upon and is well aware what happens to a group when rumors start spreading. She can handle it and understand, I'm positive!

So, for newbies, when you are dealing with someone who is 'seasoned' and been around a long time, we do not mince words, we do not sugar coat, we tell it exactly as it is. The weak do not survive this Navy long without developing a thick skin and a no-nonsense matter-of-fact way of going about things. Best not to take it personally. :o)

Achseh, I agree 100% of what you are saying but as we are military please remember Parents are not! They are an extension of the military so it never hurts to be a little kinder. Its one thing if your hanging around the MAG or Hanger but this is a site for information. It never used to be this way.

I agree w/those that are saying to let up... She was asking; that is how she was verifing the information... Even those that are "seasoned" don't know everything... Things change in the Military just like they change in our every day jobs... So if you can't be kind; then don't respond at all... Just being "experinenced" doesn't give anyone the right to be harsh...

Oh please, let's just say, you answer things the way you do, everyone else will answer the way they do, ok? No Thumper's Mommy speeches needed.

The original poster claims to be former Navy themselves, having served 16 years. After 16 years of service, I would hope she would know that sailors have sworn to defend the Constitution, to obey the orders of the President and all appointed over them according to regulations and the UCMJ. If not, I would be surprised.

My point is, delivery is only half of communication and just because you think something is harsh, doesn't make it so. Read, take what you need, discard the rest and move on. It's not as personal as you'd like to make it out to be, ladies.

Hi Navywoman, this is a valid question! You were right in asking it here! I dont know the answer. As for the nasty answers, look past them. There are alot of good answers here and there are a few who have to "make waves". To those of you who think you need to be nasty to everyone when they ask a question you need to stop and think befor you answer. As parents we tell our children to "play nice" maybe you should take that advice.
