The base is approx. 30 minute from O'Hare - at least, if you drive like I do it is. There is construction going on in the area, but I wasn't delayed at all by it (of course it was mid-January and below freezing temps, that may have had something to do with it.)

The Navy Lodge is the closest hotel to the base, it's also clean, quiet, comfortable and best of all CHEAP! It only takes a few minutes to drive to the base gates from the NL. You will need your PIR parking pass throughout the weekend to pick up and drop off your new Sailor.

As far as booking the Navy Lodge, as long as you tell them you are there for Graduation, you shouldn't have any problems. You will, however, need to book it in your Recruit's name.

Hi Judy,
Were you able to make reservations? I sure hope so. They sent me my confirmation via e-mail and they just put NAVY GRAD LEISURE and my sons name....Hope you were able to stay there. I am excited...

I did call them, unfortunetly we need a king size bed and my husband wanted to be where he could get breakfast. The Navy Lodge didn't offer these and said it was about 3-4 miles to get to a grocery store, restaurants etc. But I am looking forward to meeting everybody. Please stay in touch so we can get to meet.
