Navy For Moms

We are going up to visit my son who is at "A" school at Great Lakes for Labor Day weekend.

Does anyone know of a hotel they would recommend?

We will have four adults, would like a two bedroom suite with living area and kitchenette.

Can quailty for miliary rate, or AAA rate,
if you have stayed in or know of a good place to stay, please give me ideas.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn in Waukegan for PIR with this type of room.
but thought maybe a hotel closer to the sites might be nice this time.

We are wanting to see: Sears Tower (what ever it's called now), the Navy Pier, the lake, and a musuem or two.
If know of more places that are a do not miss this also let me know.
thanks

Highly recommend Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire. Catch the train to Chicago $5.00 weekend pass, unlimited rides on the train but am not sure about the holiday, then take either the water taxi to Navy Pier ($6 each) or the bus. Sears Tower is now Willis Tower and last weekend there were waits of 2 to 3 hours. When we go back we are taking a very early train in and hit Willis Tower first with hopefully not much waiting, then the water taxi to Navy Pier. Just have to ride that ferris wheel and our son likes both aquariums and planateriums. Museum of Science and Industry can be an all day thing if you really take time but it's also very interesting. You can take a bus from Navy Pier to the MSI. Warning - driving a car to town is very expensive. One place we saw near Navy Pier was $32 for the first 8 hours. We ended up taking a double decker bus tour (of course sitting on the open top in the heat) which we only used for the main 2 1/2 hour tour. That was very informative and something all of us enjoyed for various reasons. Cost for 2 adults and our sailor was $72. You can use that tour to catch other "neighborhood" tours from the same company that same day, getting off and on where ever you wish.

Hope this helps.

We took the train to the city, too. The train parking lot at Great Lakes was full, so we drove to Lake Bluff where there were lots of parking spots. The fee is $5 each way, but the conductor didnt charge us since we were with a Sailor. We walked to Gino's Pizza (it was really good) and took in all the sights and shops. We're planning on going back since our son is in A school there to see Willis Tower or Hancock Tower. We stayed in Gurnee right by the Gurnee Mills mall and Six Flags. The mall is huge and Rainforest Cafe is in the mall.
