Navy For Moms

Last month our son decided to join the Navy after one semester of college. He did not like school. He has met with the recruiter several times. We are supporting his decision and hope it's the right choice for him. My husband, our son and I met with the recruiter on Monday, the 15th and on the 17th our son went to MEPS and was given the hull technician job title. Can anyone help me with what this job entails? And where are the training schools located? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Julie
My son also is a Hull Technician, which is mostly plumbing and welding. He attended his A-school right across the
street from Boot Camp there in Great Lakes.

Thanks, Vickie. Mikey came home last night and showed us all of the paper work. He is so excited. He is in DEP now. We knew if he quit school and lived home to work with his dad, that would be it. But, he figured out on his own that he didn't want that life - not yet, anyway. He said, "I want people to look up to me." He's growing up already! Is Cody a "hands on" learner? Where is he stationed now?

Cody was also DEP... he signed up in Oct or Nov.. but didn't leave for bootcamp until May....the nicer weather !! He graduated bootcamp in July, then went across street to his A-school. He finished it and came home for 2 weeks on
Oct 30.... he is stationed in San Diego now. He said the the computer learning part of school was a little boring, but
the actual hands on was better.
Tell Mikey to get everything he wants in writing in his contract.
Cody started as E1, went to E2 after bootcamp, and is going to E4 after the first of the year..
