Is there a specific day when the SR can get their mail?

They also need to train the recruit who will be handling the mail. The procedures are strict.

 No one gets a letter in the first week or two. Welcome to hurry up and wait.

Even though they won't be given their letters for the first 2-3 weeks, that doesn't mean you can't write him every day (if you want). Number the envelopes so that he'll know which to open first when he's handed a bunch at one time. Remember, keep everything upbeat and encouraging, tell him how much you love him and miss him but do NOT tell him anything negative. They are stressed to the max and don't need anything else to worry about. Print photos onto regular paper (as many as will fit on a page) so they'll fold easily. They have very little storage space so nothing bulky. He'll start writing home on Sunday, mail goes out Monday, so depending on where in the country you live, you should get letters Wed. or Thurs.

Just letting you know it could take some time before mail starts rolling out. My son left Feb 10th and we just got our fist letter today. Alot depends on the group and how they are working together and if they are doing well. Mail is an incentive so take that into account. :) Also, Keep your phone by you at all times. That phone call will come and I was expecting it on the weekend. Didn't have my phone on me at the time of our son's call and missed.. it ! Talk about a let down for him! He left the sweetest phone message though! :)  Oh and Post cards are fun. :) Don't write anything too mushy though... because Postcards can be read aloud to everyone.

Wow, I can't believe how long it took for your first letter to arrive! My friend arrived at bootcamp the week after your soon and I'm hoping for a letter this week! I know each group varies depending on the RDC's and the behavior, though.

 

When did your son's first call come?

Unfortunately for my son's div they had a hard time pulling together ( I am assuming there are alot of leaders in this div ). They said mail was with held longer than normal due to this and they weren't given a phone call until week 3.  It is week 4 and still no other phone calls. Not sure what to expect really. :)

 

Be sure to keep your phone on you at all times.. we received a call on a Friday around 12:00 our time in Washington state. We missed it ... I was so upset. I wasn't expecting a call until Saturday or Sunday.. so keep your phone on you. :)

 

exciting days though for sure! Graduation is coming soon.. then I have BUD/s to look forward to.

SR's usually only get mail on Sundays.

No, they get mail daily except Sunday. Sunday is the day they get time to write letters home.
