Left for Boot Camp on May 19--Any others out there?

I would love to compare notes with anyone who has a recruit that just left this week for boot camp. My son left on May 19 and we have not gotten the "I'm here" call. I was happy to hear from other moms on this site that sometimes they don't get that call made and it doesn't mean something is wrong. I will be calling his recruiter today to see if I can get the address.

Hi!. My son left on May 19th and I got a call when he arrived at Chicago airport. He mentioned somebody let him use his cel phone, he said he was ok and that he would call from GL. Still haven't got that phone call, I guess that was it. As many people say, "no news is good news". I am with you and I hope you can hear from your son very soon.

Thanks! I agree "no news is good news!" I will let you know if/when I hear anything. I expect the box in the next couple of days. That should be fun.

Lynda, I took my son, Adam to the recruiters office in Baton Rouge where they went to MEPS in New Orleans for the night. He arrived in Chicago around 5 pm yesterday, the 20th and called me from Great Lakes about 8:20pm. Hope you hear from him soon.

Thanks--just a heads up--my son's recruiter already had his address, so you might try calling yours. I am sending off letters already! It somehow made me feel better to get this, although I don't know why. Maybe just knowing he is getting in the groove of things.

Hi Anita:

My name is Shawn and my son-in-law, Derek, left for boot camp the same time, I believe, as your son, Adam. We had a famiy dinner on Tues. night (May 19) and then my daughter, Stacey, brought Derek to the hotel in Metairie and they left around 4 a.m. for the airport so they actually "flew out" on Wed., May 20 for Great Lakes. Stacey waited anxiously all day for "the call" and received it around 6 p.m. Wed. evening. It was very short - said he had arrived, would call her in 3 weeks and she should expect a package in the mail with info including where to send mail, etc. He sounded fine but exhausted, she said - no doubt, jet-lagged. We live in Kenner and the kids live in Hammond so we are apparently 'your Louisiana neighbors!' I will ask Stacey to ask Derek if he knows Adam since both are from Southeast Louisiana! I am happy to meet you on this site as it has been most helpful to me. I'm still a newbie but learning more every day! Take care!

Shawn, thanks so, so much for the reply. I was so excited to see a "Hi Anita". I'm really glad to meet you and hope Derek and Adam become friends. Adam was exhausted as well and I heard from him about 8:20 that Wed. evening for about 30 seconds. I'll let you know too when I hear from him by mail. Thanks so much again. These boys are in my every thought and prayer every day. Take care too.

My daughter left May 19th but did not fly out until yesterday. I have not gotten a call either. I have been a little upset about this.

It sounds to me like it is not that unusual to not get a phone call, so I don't think you need to be alarmed. It would be nice to hear their voices though.....

Hi Joann,

When did your daughter get to bc was it the 20 of May? My daughter Tiffany arrived at BC May 20 and called 9:50 p.m. their time. She called the airport and shounded great and when she called from BC she started to cry a little she sounded a little scared I guess so they has been hard I havent heard anything as of yet no news is good news. I will feel so much better after this week as week 2 is Confidence Building week. I am sure by now she is in the swing of the routine. She does well if she knows what is expected. I got Tiffanys address the following Tuesday so I have sent her 4 letters!. Maybe the letters will help her through the week as I will give her somthing to look foward to. I have also noticed folks on this site that thier sailors just left May 26, and Its nice to know that Tiffany is ahead of some sailors now. Anyhow hang in their. Is your daughter on ship 9 division 250?
I look foward hearing from you

Hi Ladies,
There is a forum called April 2009 Boot Camp which has been quite helpful to read, I would suggest it for you all if you have time. (Start at the end at page 162 or something, that is where we are at in the process!) I guess the next thing we will get is the Box and a form letter. Has anyone got theirs yet?
I am still kind of worried but not as much of a wreck as yesterday. I have been noticing that many people did not receive any calls when their kids got there, so it was something of a comfort to me to hear that. Some of those who did receive a call were concerned about how their kid sounded, so maybe I would have been MORE worried (is that possible?) if my son had called.
When you hear anything from your sons, please let us know, then we can all keep track of what and how they are doing! I have a feeling my son won't be very good about writing.....Boo.
Hope you all have a good day!
