Left for Boot Camp on May 19--Any others out there?

I would love to compare notes with anyone who has a recruit that just left this week for boot camp. My son left on May 19 and we have not gotten the "I'm here" call. I was happy to hear from other moms on this site that sometimes they don't get that call made and it doesn't mean something is wrong. I will be calling his recruiter today to see if I can get the address.

Hi Chon's Mom, I am so glad to hear from you. My son's name is Marcus. We are from Tennessee. His Division is 247 USS JOHN F. KENNEDY. His recruiter give me a different address the first time. This is the right one I don't know where he got ship 9 from. I am so Excited that your son is in the same division as mine. Have you got a call or a letter from him . Please write back and let me know. Thanks.

Hi Susie18,
I am so happy to meet another mom in Div. 247 & USS JFK. Maybe JFK is ship 9?? I saw on here that many recruits are on ship 9. I only received a (30 sec.) call, but it sounded like he was reading from a script. Anyway, I was glad that they let him do even that. Did you get a call? I got a form -letter on Sat. that said Div# and ship name. So, yall are from TN. We have family living in Cleveland/near Chattanooga. I just love the mts. We live near the Atlantic, so every chance we get, we go camping up in App. mts. Does Marcus know what kind of job or A school he'll be after PIR? Please write back. Thanks.

Hi Chon's mom, Marcus Job is OS (Operations Specialist). I did get a 30 sec. call on Friday the 22 and got the same letter you did. I think you were right about the phone call. It sounded like he was reading from a script too. What is your son's Job. Do you have other Children? I have 3 boys. Marcus is my youngest one and the first to join the Military. Thanks for writing back.

Hi Susie18,
Three boys! WOW!!
I have 3 kids too, but only one boy-- Chon and he's the oldest by 11 months. He and his sister are both 18 for now. The other sister is 13, but she is severely handicapped, on a feeding tube/machine, never walked/talked, needs 24 hour care which I think is why Chon chose to be a medic in Navy. As a single parent, Chon was a big help with her, but one yr. of staying home after finishing high school, he really needed to do something good for his life. I am very proud (as I am sure all of us Navy mom's are!!). I am also new to the military life. What is OS? Have you sent any letters? I plan to early this week. Do you think they'll write back?

Hi Susie18,
Readin radars--is very important! They got to know where they're going and what they're near at all times.OS sounds like a good job, even after military career, they can get a civilian job probably. I hope that son will stay in til retirement, but it's up to him. I try not to worry and think about the negative things. BC is no picnic, from what I've heard. I try to keep positive, at least the recruits are there during a good season--no snow. I'll continue to pray that God will have favor on Marcus and Chon, and the others in Div. 247. I heard (from N4M) that they can write on Sundays, so hopefully, we will receive a letter this week??

Hi Chon's Mom and Susie. It looks like my son is in the same division as your boys! I just finally got his address yesterday and immediately sent off a letter. The Navy website has their graduation on July 17th. Not sure if you know that yet. Can't wait to talk more!
Susie,
My son also is in Division 247. He arrived in Chicago on May 20. How is your son doing?

Linda, I just the box too. It was heartbeaking, I didn't even want to open it. My daughter did it for me. The only thing we didn't get was his wallet with his ids, pictures, money, and stamps. I still haven't got a letter nor his address. I keep writing an saving the letters in my pc, hopefully I'll get the adress this week and then those lines will go out to GL. Have a nice day!!!

My son left on 5/21 only 2 days after. They could be in boot camp together. Not sure. My son called Friday morning around 2:30 am to tell me he was giving up his stuff and would call in about two weeks and I would get a box with his clothes.

My son left on May 18 to Raleigh, NC and flew out to Great Lakes for BC on May 19. I just received a very brief (30 sec.) call from him on Friday, 5/22. Hopefully, you'll hear something soon. His box of personals and clothing arrived a day before the call.
