Hi, my fiance is in Division 247 (USS JFK) I looked on the RTC website and they graduate July 17. I'm so excited :-)

It is nice to hear from you that our sons are in the same div., not to mention their names are very similiar, too. Just curious, how long will it take yall to drive to graduation? I was thinking about driving, too (from NC). But it depends on if my daughter will be coming along and how many hours it takes. Thanks.

My son is in Div 247, USS JFK (ship 9, I think) Nice to meet you all!! Did any of you start writing? I have the address, but no street name, just a bldg number. Is this correct? I already sent off a letter on Monday hopefully he will get it! Have any of you heard from them via phone calls? I booked my flight, hotel and car already. I was going to drive, but it is a 14 hour drive there and I have two small boys that probably wouldn't enjoy that too much! Can't wait though!!!! I am so proud!!

Hey Ryansmom0629, I too got the address with only the building number, div number and the ship name. I was concerned too, but fortunately I got a "not a personal call" from him on Sunday afternoon for about 5min. (needed some more bank info), and I did get to ask him about that. He told me to send it like he had written on the envelope of the form letter, which matched the address in the form letter. He said that hopefully they will get a 30 minute phone call soon. Where are you coming from, if you got a 14hr drive then you are about the same distance as Chon's Mom and myself.

Chon's mom and I are from NC. We do have about the same drive. Where are you located? I was thinking about doing the drive because I wanted my other boys to go, but they are only 5 (twins) and are very antsy! So, it will just be me and my husband and it would be a bit of a break for us too! Hoping that I get to spend some time with him on Friday and Saturday. We booked at the Holiday Inn Express. I hope they have a shuttle!

Hey Chon's Mom, we are planning on leaving Wed July 15, it is about 900 miles from our house to the base. We figure it will take us anywhere from 14-16hrs, luckily we will have I-65 most of the way. Most likely we will leave about 3-4am and try to get on the north part of Tennessee, spend the night, then go on to Chicago on Thursday. You have about as far as we do, I would prefer to fly but my husband and other son will not. We are staying at the Candlewood Suites in Gurnee, they have a shuttle that goes to the graduation so you don't have to wait in the long line of private cars. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for all the info. I know absolutely nothing about Chicago/Great Lakes/Gurnee area. How did you find out which motels have shuttles? I have not received the grad pack that they said would go out soon. Do you know if they will have some kind of family night, the day before PIR (7/16)?

Hey Sean's mom,
I just checked mapquest and I'm 978 miles from BC. My daughter told me today that she really can't afford to take off work and attend PIR. So, maybe I'll check on flying. I'm like your husband and son, I said I'd never fly, if I can't get there by car, I won't go...but I may have to eat my words. And pray hard!! Do you think I need to go ahead and book a motel room?

Hi Everyone with loved ones in Div. 247, Ship 9...Yeepee, I just got letter today from son. He said they had only 10 minutes on Sunday to write. The letter sounded good. He missed everybody, etc. He is still joking a lot (only in the letter). He said that there is not any joking or playing around--he learned that REAL quick. (Maybe he got in trouble??) He still has his personality, so I guess they haven't been too harsh on the recruits. He said they run a lot and have long days and short nights. Hopefully, yall will get to hear from your loved ones very soon.

Hey Chon's Mom! Flying isn't that bad...don't worry! I am staying at the Holidy Inn Express, they don't have a shuttle and I heard that most shuttles cost $ anyway. So, we are going to get up extra early and drive in. I am sure it will run smoothly. If you stay there, I am sure I will have room in the car we rented for you too! Just a thought....
I too got a letter yesterday! I was crying by the mailbox. Ryan still has his sense of humor also. He said that it isn't bad at all and that the food is good and you need to keep under the radar with the instructors. I wrote him back to see if he knows Chon. He also mentioned that he will be able to call home soon and that he will every couple of weeks! So, I am praying that I will be home for that. I am sure that are boys friends, sounds like they have the same personality!

I am so happy that others are getting letters too. Glad to know I was not the only one crying yesterday. The letter started out saying that he loved me, in bold letters. We had a tough time during past 3 yrs. (His dad left us for a young "trick" in his words-after almost 20 yrs.) Thankfully, the guys still have a sense of humor. I'm going to try to post picture like you did. In my next letter I'm going to ask Chon about Ryan fom Apex. Maybe they met at MEPS and are friends. If not, at PIR they can meet.
