I have a question,... what would happen to a sailor that may need his appendix taken out?
would he be discharged because of it? or is it just done?
this sailor is still at A school.
what chain of command does he go through?

I dont think they discharge for something they can recover from and be able to serve on normal active duty. They only medical discharges that I hear of ever are ones that stop the sailor from serving their normal duty. Appendix wouldn't do it.

They would not discharge him for a medical condition that can be repaired. The Navy already invested to much in your Sailor to get him thru BC. He would have to see a Corpsman or a physican at his base. I do not believe their are appts, you have to get up early and wait. It is difficult during A school because his PO's probably do not want him to miss class. He should know his chain of command, he has to go to the PO first I believe.

Good Luck and I hope he is OK. Keep me informed

They wouldn't discharge him. My husband knew someone to get theirs out. Does he need it out? If he does he needs to see his corpman ASAP, that's not something you'd wanna put off. If they do not take his concerns seriously he can always walk into an emergency room after school hours of he notifys the duty corpman.

He neds to see the Medic ASAP. What makes you think there is a problem? This is really "fixable" Good luck

I had a minor procedure at Great Lakes, a labroscopy (sp?). I was on bed rest after, which put my schooling on hold for several weeks. Then I just picked up my school again.

He should see medical right away. The hospital there is very good.

After a major surgery, and yes, I had a couple of those also, elsewhere, you can be given up to 30 days convalescent leave.

Thanks everyone for the answers... He is going to medical today or tomorrow, when ever they set up his appointment.
It is not an emergancy, he is having pain when ever he exercises or runs. I also had this trouble as a child/ young adult. My doctors said it was the appendix but would not remove it (they said it was elective surgury). So I kinda know what is happening. I'll keep you posted as to what happens.
Thanks again.
