Navy For Moms

Hi everyone! My son finally got done with testing and chose Master of Arms as his job. He leaves July of 2010 and we are proud (yet surprised) with his choice. Can anyone tell me what he will be learning about? Any experiences to share?
Thank you,
Shawn

My son is an MA. I was also surprised at my son's choice. You may want to join (or at least check out) MAA Moms http://www.navyformoms.com/group/maamoms and San Antonio MA's http://www.navyformoms.com/group/sanantoniomasatthu (A School for many MA's is at Lackland AFB near San Antonio) and Security Sailors http://www.navyformoms.com/group/securitysailors (but this has moms with sailors in many types of security rates, so is not always MA specific as the other two are). Best of everything to you and your son.

My son graduates from BC on Friday July 31st and will leave the following Wednesday for Lackland for his MA schooling. Can you tell me how long his schooling will be for there? I'm not finding it anywhere.

Jonie, when I left GL on Monday, my son was also headed for Lackland - Wednesday, I got a call from the airport - he went to Virginia instead. With the Navy - don't count on it until it happens.

Timing: Well, he PIR'd on Feb.15 and finished A school on April 15. Not sure if there was any delay in Virginia - but he should be finished in less than 2 months! He has done other training since then.

Have you check out the links that "lemonelphant" posted? There are some videos of MA training on one of them.

Hi! My son is an MA too! He graduated A School (TX) in April and is now stationed in GA. He loves the job - right now he has a "dream" schedule, but he knows that changes in Sept. and he has to work graveyard. It's tough, but he does enjoy the job. If your son is stationed in GA, contact me at my private e-mail and maybe my Andrew can look him up, show him the "ropes" as it were. E-mail is soozart@yahoo.com.....Congrats and best of luck to your sailor-son! Sooz

What does he do? I didn't even know there was a Navy base in GA (Georgia??)!!

He guards subs, I think. It's not a Navy base it's actually a Marine base with sailors on it. He works really hard at his job, and now he gets to work with the dogs there. YAY He's been wanting to do this for a really long time! Sometimes sailors get sent to Marine bases to do their jobs. A likes it though, he now has both sailor AND marine buddies to hang out with during downtime. Not sure about what he actually guards, but he loves it there!

My daughter's PIR is next week and she will be going to A school in TX for MAA. She is so excited about this. I am for her as well. I know I will be checking back in to see what all she is going through while she is in training.
