The emotions are up and down in our house. This is really hard.

Hi, My son left yesrerday, March 7th, and I am a walking zombie...I sure wish I would have read some of the things on this site to get a little more prepared. I am not sure anything would make me miss him less, but as proud as I am of him, this is tough. I will be praying for you on the 13th....
Permalink Reply by Annette GMSA Mom on March 9, 2012 at 1:39am thank you and I will be praying for you also... I will probably be the same as you this time next week.
Make sure and join Boot Camp Moms ...you can post wuestions there and watch for when your PIR group forms. The PIR groups are made for the TG (TraingGroup) that your recruits are in and are like a "home base" for you during BC. There aer regular veteran moms on them throughout the day to answer questions and lend support. You also ge to know some of the family memebrs of the other recruits in your recruits TG.
Here is an example of a PIR group:

Permalink Reply by Tina Gary's mom on March 14, 2012 at 10:06pm My son left on that day as well, we should keep in touch. I've cried all day today and it tore me up when I got the call because he sounded so strange, but I'm keeping the faith that he's doing ok.
Permalink Reply by laurie on March 15, 2012 at 11:24am My son also left for bootcamp on March 13th, he flew out of Seattle but we live in Bellingham. It has been hard not having him here, we all miss him. Will be so happy to get a letter from him.
Permalink Reply by kimstn on March 19, 2012 at 9:32am How is everyone? We are almost one week in now - I finally did son's laundry this weekend and got that task out of the way. Need to finish packing up some of his clothes that he will need once he is ready for "A" school in FL. He specifically laid his swim trunks out for me to be sure and include. My assumption is they go straight to A school with no leave time, packing for his minimal civilian clothing needs is left to me. I got his box from BC on Friday, just now waiting on form letter........anyone else get their letter yet? I am anxious to get his address so I can start mailing him notes and can give it to friends and family to mail him also.
Better get to my job, but wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing.

Permalink Reply by laurie on March 19, 2012 at 11:11am when will we know what day they will be leaving for "A" school in FL, my son will be going there as well. We got the package on Friday and then the form letter on Sat. with a quick note. So good to hear from him, he sounded great! Have a letter ready to be mailed this morning, anxious to get a letter from him. Making plans for PIR already!
Today is a week since he left here, the time will fly by so quickly.
Take care, hope you get your letter today!

Permalink Reply by kimstn on March 19, 2012 at 12:47pm I am glad to hear you got letter right after box, gives me hope mine will come today! I have 3 letters with just short and random thoughts and notes. I hear that it is a huge deal during mail call to get lots of letters so I am sending him notes collected from friends during his going away party and my letters all individually at 3 or so per day. Like a gift from home even if only notes and well wishes.....
As for A school departure, I have read about it on here and think it can vary by SR and he and his RTC will know at the end of BC. Might be that he leaves next day or two days later. My son had even told me that he could be held in GL for a few weeks until there are enough graduates to start a new class for their schooling. For example, if there are only 2 ready for AM "A" school, and the class minimum is 5, they may get held at GL doing other things until there are enough BC graduates to send to A school together. I wouldn't swear by that detail, but I think he got that from Navy website for recruits.........
My son is going for AM (aviaition mechanic) so that is why I used that as a reference point.
Will be back later hopefully with news about my form letter and PIR date for my SR!!!!
