I have a son that is an EM Nuke. He has been in for 4 yours. 2 of that on a sub. Also have a hubby that is a Nuke EM but is now retired from the Navy. What did you want to know.

How difficult is the school? Is it like college level? My son took calculus in school and did well and tested well on the tests before he signed up but I'm hoping it isn't too hard. What if he doesn't pass will they find him another "good" job?

My Sailor/Nuke is in Power School (phase 2 of 3).

Here is the link for the Nuke Mom's group - we're an active bunch.

Lots of good information "on file" in the discussion threads.

Hi,
My son is in boot camp right now. PIR date to be Oct 30. He tells me his is one of only two nukes in basic. By chance is your son in basic now? If so they are together! I am eagerly awaiting your reply. Rhonda

My son just flew out today for boot camp....so yours is already in? Well maybe they will start school at the same time since it lasts 1 1/2 years. We should keep in touch. I'm having a hard time figuring this site out. If you want to email me directly it might be better...my email is debbie.barber@fnf.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.

My son just texted me and said he is sitting by someone on the plane named Jason that is in the nuke program also. Is that your son?

Hey Rhonda I'm not sure you got my message yesterday. My son called me from the plane and said he really liked the other nuke guy named Jason and thinks they will be very good friends. Is that your sons name?

Being a nuke is a lot of stress and testing. He will learn a lot but you will be a cheerleader and prayer warrior for every test. I will be worth it. Good luck.

My son is currently an EM - in prototype in Goose Creek. The school is very intense - he has done well but anxious to finish and get to the fleet. Has volunteered for subs, but will not know until probably around Thanksgiving where he will be going. You will need to encourage, encourage, encourage. Communication may not be as often as you would like as school and study hours come first. I hear from my son about once a week and am happy with that. He called tonight and sounds tired He is on the third set of the seven day 12 hour shifts, and is "ahead of the curve", but not as far ahead as he would like to be. Just overall a tough, challenging school, but something they will be proud of when they are finished.

My son is set for PIR on oct 30..He is in GL and in the nuclear program..haven't heard much from him yet, just a quick "hi, i'm here", and just yesterday a form letter that gave us his address and a quick "hi" again. I'm excited for him but know it's going to be a tough road.
