My son's PIR is 12/19. . and just wanted to let you know what we just went through. He was "under the assumption" (not sure who told him and MANYothers in his Division) that he would get holiday leave. We BOTH were so excited, making plans on what to we were going to do for the 10+ days that we would have together over the holidays!! He called last week so discouraged, depressed, and disappointed. He said, Mom I can't come home, I'm Grad and Go!! From being on this site I knew EXACTLY what that meant and my heart SUNK!! I learned from ALOT of "seasoned" Navy Moms, that recruits DON'T get LEAVE they must report to their A-School and then it's a BIG maybe if they can home. I'm only sharing this story because I know what I went through and the heartache that came with that reality. My new philosphy. . . NO EXPECTATIONS. . NO DISAPPOINTMENTS!!!

Jasons proud mom i know how you feel i got the grad pack today and it said he has to report to next command after grad. and might get leave??????? i really want him home , the only good part of this whole life style is that he really loves it, we are crushed at home he has no idea. donna gerry's mom div 035 uss chicage a school pre-buds

Also, if your sailor takes that holiday leave offered, they're going to have a negative leave balance and not be able to take leave after A school.

what is pre buds

Joanne,
pre-buds is a new school that i believe was just set up a year ago to help the guys before they leave and go to california for buds training. that is the training school for becoming a seal. i think it is a great idea, it gives the guys who have seal contracts a chance to get a glimpse of what they are headed for and if it is for them or not. all our sons in the navy are just such amazing men and so full of courage, i am so proud yet so scared at the same time. it is such an impact on our family not having gerry home, having a child in the armed forces affects my whole family, our scarfice is missing him yet his is so much greater. i must admire his strenght because thats all i can do. donna

my son is in Div 044 and A school in Pensacola...he is Grad and GO. He will probably be in Florida (where we live) before I am.! They have pushed that Division thru in 6 weeks supposedly because of the Holidays. A lot of them are Grad and go from what I am hearing.
