Navy For Moms

This comes as great sorrow to me. My son Christian is experiencing difficulty in boot camp. He wrote "I'm losing my mind. I want to come home". What are their options? How does the Navy deal with situations like this?

Its probably not what you think. Do he graduate on 9/25. If so he don't have much time left.

His graduation date is 9/11.

I'm so sorry to hear that. If I come across anything that could help I will definitely let you know. You can contact the Red Cross and they will get you in direct contact with your son so that you can talk with him and figure out what's going on. If nothing else go straight to the recruiter.

The Navy will deal with it IF they know he is having issues. You might want to suggest to him that he ask to talk to the chaplain, a doctor or his RDC. RDCs are not always the most compassionate on the surface as they may hear this too often..."this is not what I thought it would be" but if he is truly feeling that he is losing his mind - he needs to let someone at Great Lakes know. Best of wishes to him.

I discussed Christian's situation with his recruiter earlier this afternoon. He said he would look into this matter and would contact me tomorrow. Christian was infatuated by the movies he watched and the books he read. He is an only child and spent much of his time day dreaming about the Navy. I pray for my son's safety morning, noon, and nigh. Now I pray that he rethinks his decision to leave the Navy. Thanks to all who read this.

Just wanted to let you know, I got several "I'm losing my mind " letters from my son in BC. He never said he wanted to come home, but he did have some rought spots. I don't know your son, so if you think you should continue to check on this, definitely do it. All I know is my son definitely didn't lose his mind, made it through, finished A and C school at the top of his class and is doing really well. I will pray for peace of mind for you today, and also that your son will get to feeling better as time goes by.

What a great message to share Rene! I think boot camp can be very shocking for many recruits and your testament about your son's experience is very encouraging to many.

I couldn't sleep last night. I had nightmares involving dangerous situations. I went to bed praying for Christian and when I woke up I started praying again. I am waiting for his recruiter's phone call. I am worried and terrified for Christian. I have called his father in South Carolina to inform him of Christian's condition. I called and spoke to my mother too. I feel responsible for his fear of leaving home. I made it so easy for him to quit and walk away. I feel I failed my son's chances to become the Navy Sailor he had dreamed of all his life. I failed to teach him to challenge himself in various situations that could teach him to overcome obstacles.

Tell your son to hang in there. Graduation will be here before you know it. It will get easier. My son said about the 3rd week he didn't know if he would make it or not, but he toughed it out. I don't think that you should blame yourself. I hope everything works out for your son.
