Navy For Moms

My daughter called last night and said the main thing she wants to do is find a really good steak, when she graduates....Anyone have any ideas on a really good place to get a steak...I was hoping to be able to find somewhere close and not have to go all the way into Chicago.
Thanks

Is Ruby Tuesday's good enough? Their buffalo burgers aren't bad. There is also an Outback Steakhouse close to Gurnee. I half-noticed someplace else in the mall parking lot, I want to say it's a Texas Corral.

If you're driving, I'd bet on the area right around Gurnee Mall is littered with good choices. If you are taking a cab, they'd probably know exactly where to take you.

I don't know about their steak offerings... There is a greek-owed american-style diner on route 41 just south of buckley rd. There is also another good restaurant called Wildberry if you take Buckley rd west to Milwakee Ave. (The road rises sharply because that is the old beach ridge.)

Ask the hotel where you are staying, thats what we did. We also went to the Navy Pier and had some wonderful food there too. Enjoy, she desesrves it!

There's a place in Gurnee called the Backyard Pit, great steaks there and not far from the base. I have also been to Outback in Gurnee and also Texas Roadhouse, both are fine also. I live about 30 minutes from the base, so I guess I'm a local. HTH.

My husband was born and raised in that area. Try Jimmy's Charhouse on Rt. 137 and Butterfield Rd. in Libertyville (just straight west of the base). The Lone Star Steakhouse in Gurnee is pretty good. It is just a couple miles passed the Wildberry restaurant mentioned in another post, but that restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch. We would also second the motion on the Backyard Steak Pit. Enjoy.

Newnavymom,
If you are anywhere near the Gurney Mall, there is a Lonestar Steakhouse, that is where we ate after graduation and my son ordered the biggest they had and ate every bit of it. If you have a GPS, which I would recommend, you could find directions that way.
