Navy For Moms

I have a very sick son in the hospital in San Diego. Is there a mom out there who could go see him? Thank you.

Laura, what is wrong with him ? Where is he based ? I live in Laguna One hour north . Kym
I spoke with one of the doctors. They said he has some type of obstruction in his intestine and that he's very sick but it's not life or death (or I would already be on my way!). At this point they don't plan to do surgery. They've had him in the ER for 8 hours and were getting ready to move him to a room when they called. They will be keeping him overnight with the tube in him and also have started him on antibiotics. He's throwing up and that type of thing and even though he is a tough guy, he wants his Mama. It's killing me to not be there and I'm wondering if I should fly out? I can't get a flight until in the morning, but I could be there by tomorrow afternoon. I know he's a man, but I'm so worried about him - especially since he asked if I could find a mom to come see him. That's so unusual for him to want someone and to admit to it. He's to begin C school next week and he's on the sub training base but he's at the VA hospital. His room-mate doesn't even know where he is and I have no idea how to get ahold of him since I don't know his name.
Laura, I would get a flight out to see him. Even though he is a big boy they still need us. I know he would feel comforted by you being there.I think you would regret it if you did not. Kym
Laura:

I've had a bowel obstruction and what they are doing is trying to back everything out so the kink or blockage will loosen up on its own. The NG tube is not fun, but he should no longer be throwing up if it is in correctly. They will know soon whether or not he will require surgery to fix this. Them knowing what this is and monitoring it is the most critical thing. Can the Red Cross help you out on this?

I am sorry that your son is so ill.
and obstruction can be very painful and although it is not "life threating" I know as a mom you are very very worried. Although I live in NH an can not go to see him or be with him for you I will pray for you and he.
did you post in the cali mom group? someone is close I am sure they could get there for you.
Thank you Karen. I just finished posting in the So Cal mom and I'm so thankful y'all suggested that. I'm just not thinking straight. Thank you for your prayers; that's what I've been doing since I received the call. He had been home for two weeks and had just flown back to SD Saturday night. If this had to happen, I really wish I could have been with him. He rarely ever admits to needing me, so it's breaking my heart when he's asking for me or another Navy mom and I can't seem to find one. But it really helps me just knowing the other Navy moms are praying and waiting with me. Thank you so very much!
Our family's prayers are with you.
wooo hoo thanks to a friend we have a mom going to see him !
We moms work fast when helping one of own!
Thank heavens! I'm so glad. Please keep us posted of his progress.
Laura, PLease know that your son and you are in our families prayers. I know this is a very hard time for you wish I could thing of the right comforting words, but please do realize us mothers know how it feels not being abole to be there right when they need us and everything will turn out fine in the end.
Laura, we are praying for Spencer and you. Although, I know you want to be there with him; remember prayer can go where we can't. Please keep us updated on his progress.
Thank you to all the wonderful Navy moms out there! An angel named Tammy is on her way to see my son (Spencer) as I write this. Afterwards she will call me and let me know how he is from a mom's point of view. As it stands now I am preparing to fly out tomorrow morning (who knew you couldn't get a night time flight to San Diego from the south east?). He sounds so pitiful on the phone and I think we'll both feel better if I go out.

God hears all our prayers, even the ones I haven't had time to pray yet. Before we even located a mom to visit, my husband's best friend offered us a free airline ticket from his frequent flyer miles. I can't tell you what a help that is and what a blessing it is.

I will give an update on his condition as soon as I talk to Tammy. Again, thank you all so much, especially to Brenda for finding me a mom, to Tammy for going, and to Kimberly who was willing to drive two hours from L.A. if we didn't find a mom closer. Y'all are great and I owe each of you a big hug, kiss, and home cooked meal!
