If they will be in BC over the holidays. The will NOT get leave.

If they are in GL "A" school:
the dates have already been given to the students, and my understanding is the students have already filled out leave chits or will be doing that with in the next week. Students leave will be approved, unless they get into trouble. So a plane ticket can be bought. Students will NOT get their leave chit back until the day they go on leave. The staff doesn't want them to loose the paper work, that is why it is not given to to them before hand.

If the Sailor is at their permant duty station:
The ships normally have two leave times: One covers over Chirstmas and one covers over New Years. There will be a day inbetween the two leave times when everyone has to be back on the ship. NO they can not take both leave peiords.

Not enough leave days:
If a Sailor is allowed to take leave and does not have enough leave days, they will go in the hole with leave days. It will get back to the postive after a few months.

Flights:
Sailors pay for their own flight home on leave. Sailors pay for their own way to get to and from the airport to go on leave.

Not taking leave:
If a Sailors does not want to take leave they do not have to. They will be working every day, plus have duty. If they don't have duty they might have off Chirstmas and New Years day. Every command is different about how much liberty they give Sailors over the holiday stand down who did not take leave.

LEAVE IS NOT APPROVED UNTIL THEY GET THEIR LEAVE CHIT BACK (with the expection of GL "A" Schools)

***I have some updated info for Sailors who will have PIR and than comeing to GL "A" schools during Nov
and Dec time frame:

The Sailors will be allowed to take the holiday leave, they will fill out a leave chit and sign a pg13,
stating they understand that they will go in the hole with leave day's. When a Sailor goes in the hole with leave days, if something happens latter on (before they earn the leave days back) it will be hard to go on leave. Also if the Sailor does not earn the leave days back prior to transfeering to their next command they will NOT be allowed to go on leave between "A" school and their fist duty station.

IF the recuites divsion will be allowed to be adopted for a few hours (2-4 hours) on Christmas a letter will be sent home to that recruits family. Only one or two divisions will be adopted, so the odds are not good.

BC does NOT shut down! There can be a blizzard outside and BC will go on!

Coming from a military family, I challenged the recruiter when he told my son that he would be abe to come home. He was pretty adimate that he would be able to come home for the day. Oh well, this is the life of being a Navy mom. I will just leave the tree up until January. I know my mom had to do that a few times.
Thanks for your response. I was pretty sure that was going to be the answer but, I didn't want to give up hope.

Wow! My head is spinning! Our son graduated last Friday, Nov 21 (etched into my heart forever)
He is moving to A school at GL tomorrow (the day BEFORE Thanksgiving)...we're driving up, not knowing if or when we will be able to see him with a Thanksgiving Dinner...any ideas?
He (we) are kinda between a rock and a hard spot with the timing. All of these discussions are helpfull, but, none address our situation. Thanks in advance for any ideas on what we might expect. We'd be happy with a few hours on Thanksgiving day.

My son just graduated the 21st of November from BC. Before we left, he was given his date for A school in Pennsacola (report no later than Nov 30 and no earlier than Nov 29) and was told he would leave GL no later than Nov 25. Will he be able to leave once he arrives at Penn? Will he be able to call when he gets there?

Reply to This

He should certainly be able to call, and he should find out if he can take some leave fairly quickly.

If he is in GL, he should talk to his Staff and than have them call down to P-cola to see what the leave time frame is.

Janelle, my son is enroute to P'cola this morning (assuming yours is too!) Please let me know when you find out any info and I'll do the same! We're too far away to make it down for Thanksgiving (and a little wiped out from the GL adventure!), but we have fingers and toes crossed for Christmas and want to make the arrangements ASAP! What will your son be doing in A school? Ours is starting with Aircrew and then Aviation Electronics.

Does my fiance need to turn in LES to get leave? He turned in the leave chit, but was unable to get the LES to them on time and they told him to bring in his LES...but he's freaking out because our wedding date is December 23rd...and he's afraid he won't get leave now.

Thanks.

Attention to detail. IF he was told to given them his LES, he MUST give them his LES. Leave is a privilage not a right.

This is only a rumor that I've heard coming out of Great Lakes that all divisions with PIR dates 01/02/09 and 01/09/09 will be able to be adopted for Christmas Day. ONLY by a blood relative though. No g/f's, b/f's, great uncles-twice removed. I read that an aunt or uncle, parent, grandparent, sibling is ok. If they are not adopted by family, they will be "adopted" as a division by a civic group or church for a day of food, movies, "kicking back", and hanging out with their "new family". Forms are coming out in the grad packs and the date for returning them has been extended till Dec. 22. I got that info from "My pig is purple" who works at RTC and was responding to comments made at the PIR 01/09/09 page.

I didnt get the form for adoption in the grad pack (PIR 1/2/09), which i finally got today btw. not that I or any blood relative could be there to adopt her, so it really doesnt matter to me. But if I could be there, I'd be freakin right about now. She did say in a letter received today that she would be able to call on Christmas.
