GL is to get almost 8 inches of snow by rush hour Monday morning! If your Sailor is going to be up in GL "A" school over the winter time, might want to get them some long johns! :~}

Wonder if the snow this year will top last year's snow fall and record low! Last year there was over 100 inches of snow and the weather got down to -52.

Oh my! My son is leaving in the morning to start BC. I hope the clothes that are provided for the recruits include whatever they need to stay warm. Now, I will have something else to worry about.

Cheryle, my son is in BC and he was born and raised in Hawaii, yes the cold weather was just another thing for me to worry about. When I asked my son if he was alright with the cold weather, he simply replied " Mom they did give me clothes." Wish you could have heard the sarcasim in his voice. If it is not one thing it will be another to worry about.

Sorry wasn't trying to worry anyone :~{

They do give the recruits warm cloths, gloves, hats, jackets, scarf's, sky masks, etc...

FYI, there was less than 5 inchs of snow so far in GL.

Oh my, Mom son is at BC now and will return for A. School. He'll be in GL for the most of the winter. Until April 09!

My son is in boot camp now. Do they exercise outside in the snow? Or is there a gym? He's not used to cold weather either.

At one time or another everyone goes out side. BUT they normally do not PT outside when the weather is this cold. Tonight they are saying another 4-6 inches of snow!

My son is up there right now--he's used to the cold and snow though. I guess winter is finally here--no turning back now!;-)

I too was worried that he would be cold. We're from the Northeast so, the cold is something that he's used to. Well not -52 :)Brrrrr.... But he assured me the clothing they provide is more than warm. His letter said, Ma, stop worrying about the weather and if I'm warm. We are provided with everything we need. Sometimes, I even sweat!! It's really not that bad!! I think sometimes I just NEED something to worry about :)

My daughter is in BC right now, halfway done (woohoo) PIR 01/02/09. Anyway, she was raised in South Florida (ft. lauderdale) her whole life and has only seen snow once when she was around 10 on a trip to NJ. She was soooo excited in her first letter because it snowed on them when they were marching the first week they were there. lol She said it was great but she was bummed because she couldnt play in it! She also assured me that they gave them warm clothes and she was fine. She's in her glory with all that snow! I'm jealous too! lol

I went to boot camp in Orlando and got sent to Glakes for A school. My time on hold enabled me to learn the fine art of snow shoveling. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to land a spot in the maintenance shop instead!

We had plenty of warm clothes. I still have my funky old dress wool hood stashed somewhere. They don't wear them anymore, which is probably good, they were weird.

Hoppi, Should I buy long johns? Can a Sailor wear them under his uniforn? What do they wear for A school in GL anyway? My son is still in BC but PIR on Dec. 24th then will return to GL for A school until March or April. Give me an idea please
