Navy For Moms

My son has already done his 4 years and will have been out 2 years in August. Since getting out he has goten his commercial pilot license as well as his commercial pilot instructors license but he doesn't have his Bachelor's Degree. I was told by a recruiter in OKC that there is a program that he can go back in and have the Bachelors' Degree waved because he already has all of his pilot's licenses, soes anyone know anything about this. He's willing to go back in for 20 years if he can be an officer and fly for the Navy. I've tried contacting local recruiters but after 2 weeks no response. Can anybody help me out with info on this or where I can go to get info on it.

I am a recruiter in Kansas City, I am not sure about him going back in as an Officer, or back in at all. I know that being prior service and coming back in is harder now than it has been in the past. You are going to want to talk to an Officer Recruiter not an Enlisted Recruiter. I am not sure where you are located but if you go onto www.navy.com and click on the find a recruiter tab at the top of the page they usually have the phone numbers for Officer and Enlisted recuruiters for your area code. I hope that this helps.

deffiantly true on what the below post says. it is terribly hard to get some one back in the navy that got out. further more, a person who does not have a degree can not fly in the navy.

go to the navy.com website do the find a recruiter, there is an officer programs number there, call the one in your area and ask them, but im pretty sure its a no go.

my son in law got out last summer when the economy was doing pretty good, he had a lead on a govt. job on the east coast. When the economy went south, he tried to re enlist and was turned down. I dont understand why. He had nothing wrong in his file, he was a sec. class, i am sorry i dont know what his job was. They turned him down, so my daughter had to re enilst for another 6 years. Why is it so hard to re enlist with all his training, than for a new recruit to come in and cost the govt. for all the training that he has to do. He really misses the navy and would like to re enlist. Have any idea?

Thanks for the input. I was hoping there was a way for him to re-enlist while he goes to school full time, because I know time is an issue. He is a licensed FAA Pilot, I would think that would be an advantage but obviously having a bachelor's degree in anything beats that out. Officer first pilot second, we are in contact now with an officer recruiter in the DFW area. Unfortuneately he is not willing to go back in as an enlisted E-5 and he doesn't have enough time to get his BA before he turns 27 so it is a dead issue. Hopefully my daughter will think real hard before she gets out.
Thanks to all of you!

Something for him to keep in mind, the longer he is out and than tries to come back in the lower his paygrade will go if he is allowed to come back in. Example: right now they offered for him to come back in as an E-5, in a few weeks or a few more months that could go down to E-4. Also if he is switching rates when coming back in, if he fails out of the new school he looses the E-5.

FYI, it is enlist not re-enlist as he has been out of the USN.

they said something about not having his reviews on paper, they were oral, and he didnt catch it. The ship is in Japan so i guess it would be impossible to get them.

I kind of wish my son did that

that might be an option, at least he would still be part of the navy, and a small income coming in to help out. They do get paid for that dont they?

paid on drill weekends only. Paid when training, or deployed only. Some insurance bennys.

I sent this info to my son in Japan. He was a recruiter for 3 years. I will let you know what I find out.
