Be sure and check out the Navy Lodge. It is right near the huge base and fairly cheap!

is the navy lodge in a good area? i am not very familiar with the Norfolk area?

I would say so - it is right down the road from the base!! I have a friend staying there now and she is LOVING it because there are SAILORS everywhere!!
I was in Norfolk last year and they were just doing a huge remodeling project on it! It is all newly updated.
Do you know you need your Sailor to check you in to the lodge?

When you check into the Navy Lodge, you have 24 hours to have your Sailor come and check you in. Just called Norfolk and that's what I was told.

Well, this is a little late, since you're already there. But for future trips, since you already have a mil ID check out Fort Story- google Cape Henry- in Virginia Beach. It's a bit away from Norfolk, but if going for a weekend that your son has off, he may appreciate getting out of Norfolk. It's right on the water and they have cabins, a hotel and bungalows to rent. That's where we stay when in the area. It's quiet yet close to everything.
