There is a posting here - http://tinyurl.com/mm8ecy - telling of A school Sailors being stripped of rank, losing security clearance and being shipped off to the fleet as undesignated. Zero tolerance for underage drinking.

I've also heard of underage nukes getting busted and losing their schools.

Here's a tip: Don't even think about it. Very bad idea.

When my daughter was in Pensacola there was a LOT of it! Lots got to go to captains mast and no longer had a career in the Navy. They changed how you leave for Liberty on weekends because of it. As of June, you had to have a "liberty buddy" to be able to leave base, the idea is to keep each other safe and within the rules, because if one got in trouble so didnt the other one. If a recruit decides to drink underage or an older recruit wants to help him get alchohol then neither belongs in the Navy. Older recruits are able to drink on base at Portside. If they cant follow the rules/guidelines, how are they gonna be there for other sailors when they are needed? Its supposed to be "all for one" so to say, not do what you please.

Kathy are you saying that the sailors who went to captains mass for underage drinking were discharged for there first offense?

They can be. Depends on how bad and the commad. Sounds like you are experiencing this. I hope your sailor is ok. Some lessons are hard to learn.

According to the new rules... two alcohol related incidents (dui, injured while drinking, etc.) will get you discharged... zero tolerance. There are too many standing in line waiting to join the Navy... screw up and you're out.

It was a big drinking party in a hotel room, everyone on the base was punished for it,it was lockdown for a weekend. they all got invited to see the offenders that caused the lockdown and what happens at captains mast. It was a really bad issue, not sure if it has settled. The Navy can do what they feel is just. It was out of control every weekend, if I remember correctly, yes they were discharged. There is a waiting list to get into the Navy, backlogged to 2010, they are not being easy on these kids. They are told the consequences many times before they get liberty.

Thank you for the info Kathy, I heard about the waiting list, just wanted to confirm.

Navy has been taking the ZERO TOLERANCE stance for a while. know there were some in my son's A School and Nuke School that didn't fare well for doing it or supplying. Son would be the desginated driver for those who could do it leagally. He still does it now. It is not worth being in the Navy if you have to do that. I understand for many this is their first chance at freedom so to speak or they did it when they were home.
When hubby was in he a guy on his sub drink and drive killed 2 of his friends that were with him. Hardest thing that anyone ever had to tell was to let him know what he did. As the saying goes Shipmates don't let Shipmates drink and drive.

Underage drinking in pensacola and everwhere in the navy is zero tolerance, when I was a recruiter I always told ever young sailor that had an "A" school in P-cola, do not drink one drop of alcohol if you where underage because you WILL get caught lose your school and be sent to the fleet or even discharged from the navy.
