Jeremy loves Japan so much, he hopes to get to stay after his first 3 years are up. But he's also hoping to do STA21, so he'll have to come back stateside for awhile if he gets accepted into that.
Donna, have you been over to Japan. My husband and I are thinking of a trip over sometime during his three year deployment. He's only been there since April, so we have lots of time still.

Been ages since I was on the AT page, spend most of my time on the Nebraska moms page. But my son is also on the Washington! He just completed yr 2 with the VAQ-136 , one more yr to go in Japan, then I'll get to see my boy!! He loves it over there!! His first "job" as a newbie was to run the attack snack shack, he stocked and ran where the guys buy their goodies!! He liked that too, When they hit the base in Atsugi he still had to do his time running the shack there, he has his moms business sense and actually had sales pick up with some of the things he did! And to the new moms and girl friends on here, you are so lucky to have this site!! Wish it had been around 3 yrs ago for me :-)

Most of the first time crusers got assigned to the galley, Jeremy got lucky! He is enjoying being part of the Hazmat team. After his 12 hour shift, he goes to the line shack on the cruiser, to get qualified for AT. They don't get a whole lot of sleep!

Wow, activity on the AT page. I'm so excited. Glad to meet you Sherrill. My son's ship is in port and he has not gone on a cruise yet. Didn't know about the Hazmat, thanks for the info.

Hi everyone. My son is rated as an AT and is on the USS George Washington. It is his first cruise, so he is assigned to the Hazmat team. (Your first cruise , you are assigned to a department that is not your rating.) Nice to meet you all and be part of this group!

Hi everyone.
My daughter Jillian just got orders for her first duty station. She will be attached to the shore based squadron VFA 106 in NAS Oceana (Virginia Beach). I understand that this squadron is a training squadron for new and replacement pilots of F/A-18 Hornets and SuperHornets. Can anyone tell me anymore? I have also heard that because they are a training squadron, they are entirely shore based and never deploy on a ship. Is this true? I did read somewhere on a website about the USS Eisenhower welcoming sailors and marines from VFA 106. And I read somewhere else about VFA 106 being on the USS Enterprise. So I am a bit confused. Any information would certainly be welcome!

Hi everyone. My boyfriend Josh is actually leaving for BC on July 27th. He has it in his contract that he will be an AT. I have so many questions and don't really even know where to begin. I've read through all the posts and my head is spinning! I've never known anyone in the Navy so I'm trying to do the most research that I possibly can. There has actually been some marriage talk :) :) and I'm excited to start this new journey with him. One of my main questions is: when would I actually be able to move with him? Would it be once he got to his duty station after all the schooling? Any information or stories would be greatly appreciated!
Tam, Jenny's mom Comment by Tam, Jenny's mom on May 22, 2009 at 12:08am
Hi everyone....my daughter, Jenny, has been at Keesler AFB in Biloxi for a week now. She is getting ready to start Cal Tech. So for, she likes it much better than Pensacola. Barb B...ditto about the beaches & how the Air Force treats them. She also said the food at the 'gallies' is awsome. She said the rooms are much better too & she just has one roommate. You're right about the problem with under age drinking (she's 23). When she reached stage 3 at Pensacola she made a point of not hanging out with anyone under 21 & they all had to attend a few lectures on the problem. She was glad to move on. When she graduates from Cal Tech, she thinks she gets 3wks to come home. Then it's off to Japan. She will serve on the USS George Wash. She is excited & so are we, but I know it's going to be hard when that time gets here. It's just so nice to have navy4moms!........Tammy
Barb B Comment by Barb B on May 20, 2009 at 8:44am
Hello everyone, my son Jeff just graduated from CalTech in Biloxi and after a fabulous two weeks at home is now on the USS Truman in Norfolk. He is ATI and we have been so proud of the positive changes the Navy has made in him. He enjoyed his stays in Pensacola and Biloxi -- both have pros and cons. He said the barracks and amenities in Biloxi were much nicer than Pensacola, but he loved the beaches in Pensacola (but said there is a terrible underage drinking problem there, which leads to many fights and other disturbances.) He said Keesler treats them as guests of the Air Force so life was easier there. I think he's in for a rude awakening in Norfolk! He's still getting his feet wet as to what he'll be doing on the ship so I can't help much there, but I'm glad to have found this group.
