KH...there was some kind of deposit...I don't remember how much. They can tell you at the store or call their main customer service number found on their Sprint web site.

KH...There should be a Sprint dealer near your residence. Just go online to Sprint wireless and type in your zip code for the location of the nearest dealer. You can also order the wireless cards on-line. Purchase the card locally and mail it to him yourself. If you order online...have it mailed to you directly and then mail to your son yourself.

I am thrilled!! I got a call from Michael this morning and he has his new cell phone [AT&T]... he said that they all have 5 liberty days where they can sleep as late as they want, and do whatever they please... school starts on Thursday! [A School in Meridian, MS.... Yeoman] The school could last as little as 2 weeks, to up to 2 months... he'll soon find out.. This school is more laid back the others, so I'm glad of that... he sounded so happy to finally get a phone.. .he's been without one for almost a year [long story], so some of his independence has returned! He has plans to call me again tonight after his cell is fully charged.... happiness does not even begin to cover what I'm feeling!!!

I cannot tell you how relieved and thrilled I am to finally have a number where I can call him whenever I please.... ain't technology grand!!? For the first time in a long while, I feel like life is getting better for us...its been a very long and really tough YEAR for us, and now we feel like things are finally much better! Hope everyone else gets a call today too!

On another note, I found some email addresses for Great Lakes.. My son's RDC was really great... .didn't yell as much as the others, and was very encouraging and his sense of humor made things easier... I emailed a letter of appreciation to every email I could find, and mentioned my son's RDC and wanting the message to be passed on to him, my eternal thanks for helping transform my son to a more confident, stronger man.... I mentioned the RDC's name and the division Michael was in and when PIR was... for me, it was necessary because of the overwhelming encouragement that Chief Frnaklin was to Michael.... just a thought in case anyone else had the same inkling.

Happy 4th, everybody and God bless America!!

Thank you. Was there a set up fee or deposit? Is the only place you can buy the card at the mall? Or...can I order it for him on line and get it sent? Sorry.....so many questions!

Sprint get the best reception at Great Lakes. My son is presently using it in Corpsman A School dorms. It is by far the most widely-used wireless internet for laptops at Great Lakes. There is a military discount...about $60 a month. If the sailor get stationed in an area not serviced by Sprint, they will suspend the contract.

My son is in great lakes at the Corpsman School (although he has not started school yet). Does any ones child have internet or cable and who did they use for service. My son and I called a few places (comcast and sprint) and the set up fees are high. Do you get a discount if in the military. Many are 1 or 2 year contracts....don't want my son to get stuck with that. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

He will eventually have access to a pay phone. He will tell you when it is permissable to receive a cell phone and what address to send it to. If and when you mail the cell phone or laptop, be sure to INSURE the item to the max!

thanks for the info. I guess now it's just another waiting game until I hear from him,

In Pensacola the sailors have pay phones available and can use cell and computers to communicate. A school duration is different for different ratings. He should be able to have a cell phone. When I send Collin a package, I send it Priority Mail through the USPS.
