I did not mean for anyone to take offense to my comment. Sorry

Barb, yes he is with John. He said that he knows him and sometime they do work together. Guess they are changing duty times again this week! How they keep up I don't know!!! I suppose being young is an advantage huh? Have you got all your knitting projects done for the holidays? I'm glad Ryan is coming home and I am franticly trying to finish up a few things for him!!!!

Jackie's comment was in response to my experience there last weekend. I'm happy to hear that there is support in WA.

Jackie, I wanted to make a comment about people in Washington being not very supportive of the military. I live in Washington and my son is also in the Navy and we in Washington are very supportive of all the troops. There have been some bad press for the military around here as there has been crimes committed by soldiers by several different branches of the armed services in the area with in the last several years. I do know however when a ship or squadron comes home or goes on deployment there is a huge community outreach of support for our troops and there families I don't think is has anything to do with political views. I'm sorry your son has had some bad experiences with some people in Washington, but please don't classify us all as liberals.

Jackie, I didn't realize your son is doing TAD as security. Mine is, too! We live close enough that he comes home on his days off (girlfriend is a huge reason).

I haven't been on N4M's in ages, I get busy and forget to check in here. My son has settled into his Navy life and I don't feel I need the support at the moment, because I see him all the time.

Do any of you have a son tt is living on the barge still? My son called tonight and said one of his bunk mates asked if I was on N4M and my son said yes and this young man said I think our moms have talked. Of course, we moms call our children by their first names and our kids use last names, so I don't know if any of you may be the mom I am allegedly talking to! LOL It sounded like a funny conversation. This other boy said "Is your mom really into N4Ms?" and my son said yes (and probably did an eye roll ) and the other boy said, "don't be embarrassed my mom is too" so I thought that was kind of cute...Marty (Oh! he says he goes by Martin now, sorry son!) said this young man arrived a few weeks before he did, and he got there in mid Oct.

I wasn't sure if it was a quota thing from each division or what.

My son went through training while deployed last year and took the assignment for 1 year. Its been a year+ right now, he's waiting on another training class to finish up so someone can take his place and at that time he will go back to ABF on the flight deck. I would say there could be a lot of diff. reasons why someone goes through this, so I don't want to take a guess on that.

How long does TAD typically last and is there any particular reason they would pick a sailor to go through the training?

My son is at the end of his TAD in security now. As for the support of WA area residents.... there will always be those that are supportive my son has said that many aren't though. He has been there for 3 years now and will not wear his uniform anywhere around the area. He doesn't even like to tell anyone he is military. Although one time he came home in his uniform and someone at SEA-TAC came up to him and thanked him for his service. He was shocked but very happy. Seattle is a very liberal area and sometimes I think the liberals aren't very supportive of our military. I know thats generalizing people and I don't mean to but its just an observation my son and I have made.
