Suzanne, I don't know any factual information yet. I know of many sailors who will be going or may be going to San Diego for V.L.S. training. Many are currently waiting for hard copy orders for the C-School. My son heard a rumor today. Rumors are just that RUMORS. The rumor was that many of the GM V.L.S. sailors will be getting orders for the 18th of December. If that is true they usually get a 2 week leave prior to reporting for school. Now my son doesn't know whether to apply for Christmas leave while on Great Lakes or wait for C-School orders. Will the orders appear, what should he do, he doesn't know.

I believe if orders are given for C-School in San Diego the reporting date may be after the first of the year. The C-School training facility will more then likely be shut down just like Great Lakes. I don't know Suzanne's rate but if she is going to attend C-School in San Diego she may get orders soon. She will more then likely get her leave. Lets keep our fingers crossed. This is a first for me too. Gary T.

As I recall, your daughter is STG and would be headed for Point Loma. The school has a stand down from Dec 19 to Jan 3 for the holidays. (Our son is there now - finished A school, in OPS with C school starting in January)

Not sure if there would be an A school actually starting in December. Suggestion - send a note to Sonar Chief on the STG site. He has much knowledge and a few contacts at the school.

Am assuming your daughter is finishing up her ATT soon. . . . good luck - even if she gets moved in December, there is a pretty solid chance she could have leave time over the holidays.

My son is STG and he'd been extremely concerned about possibly having to head to San Diego in December (and not knowing whether he'd have Christmas leave). He was just notified that he won't be heading to San Diego until mid-January so he was able to make his travel arrangements home for the holidays.

So, your daughter is STG, too? I've met so few moms of STG sailors! It sounds like there's a possibility they're on the same track? Have you heard anything more from your daughter?

Tonya don't worry. My son Nick started basic on 13/Jan/09. He finally finished GM A-School on 03/Oct/09 and has been on hold since. He received his orders on 06/Nov/09. He is to report to San Diego for C-School on 31/Jan/2010. Nick will be taking a leave over Christmas 18/Dec/09 through 03/Jan/2010. He will return to Great Lakes for 11 days but must report to his adviser 5 working days prior to the 14th/Jan/2010. He will then take another leave until 27 Jan 2010. The remaining 5 days after that leave will be travel days as he will be driving to San Diego. Nick will also spend five of his remaining days at home doing RAP duty with the recruiters. (5 days not counted as leave). Maybe Nate will be given a leave prior to shipping. Who knows, your may see quite a lot of him in Dec and Jan. Once Nate gets his hard copy orders and speaks with his adviser he will know all of the facts. Enjoy Christmas with him and what ever happens upon his return to Great Lakes will all wash out. My son is currently in FMTB and he said that everyone is getting leave for Christmas from there. If your son gets orders for San Diego, he will probably leave GL for leave and have to report to San Diego when he gets done with leave. My son has to report back to San Diego. Hope this is of help.

Same situation for my husband and I, just different place. Because Nathan just received his orders (and he must report to his ship in Norfolk by dec 14th) they had to tear his leave chit up for DEC in great lakes. They have to take their leave from the proper command or something. Basically if they leave in their chit at the old command, the leave days are still taken from their days but since they are at a new command...they dont get them. So I think they have to put in for it at the new command, but given time restrictions , etc.. it makes going home very unlikely. For us, at least. I don't really know what I'm talking about, just reiterating things my husband has told me. At any rate, they can't tell us anything at all right now so we aren't holding our breath. We have no idea whats going on in regard to christmas. It's frustrating, but oh well! It's the military!
