George Carlin on aging!
(Absolutely Brilliant)
IF YOU DON'T READ THIS TO THE VERY END, YOU HAVE LOST A DAY IN YOUR LIFE. AND WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED, DO AS I AM DOING AND SEND IT ON.

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life !You become 21.. Even the words sound like a ceremony.YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling.. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone....

But! wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and make it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into ! your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3.Keep learning.! Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever, even ham radio. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's family name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6... The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on.. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.Your home is your refuge.

8.. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

And if you don't send this to at least 8 people - who cares? But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!

Raymond just got back to his room (around 1:00 pm). The surgeon consulted with us earlier and said everything went well and that he had very little bleeding. She showed us pictures of his throat and trachea. I got to see his subglottic edema and she identified and showed us new swelling and new area that may scar. The tube must have moved around or was too tight and it irritated this area of his throat. So it is a good thing that we got the breathing tube out of this area and hopefully it will heal without scaring. She told us he would be returning to his room shortly.

We went up to our waiting room in anticipation of seeing him. I decided to wait in the hallway because I had to much nervous energy to sit in our waiting room. While we were waiting and talking with the chaplain the anesthesiologist came out of the unit from transporting Raymond. He told us how well Raymond had done, oxygen saturations and blood pressure remained high, and he tolerated the procedure well. He did go on and on about three giant poops he had and what a big mess that made. I said I was sorry and that we had checked his diaper before he left, but thanks because that was one of his goals.

Just after talking to the anesthesiologist we heard the code alarm and the chaplain went to see if she could aid anyone. A couple of minutes later an ENT went by with his tool kit. The chaplain then came out and by the look on her face I knew something was up with Raymond. The alarm was for Raymond we learned later that it was not a code alarm but a rapid response alarm. His new tracheostomy had come out of position. Raymond did amazingly well during the fire drill but everyone crowded his bed in preparation of a far worst reaction. The tube had come out of his trachea and was lodged between it and somewhere inside of his neck; the end result was that he was not getting any oxygen. His oxygen saturations dropped to the low 70’s and Jack our RT noticed that there was not very much resistance from the ventilator and then that his chest was not rising. So they quickly bagged him to bring his oxygen up and then ENT replaced the tube and sutured it to his skin. As everyone has come by since the incident the consensus from them is that Raymond was amazing through the whole thing, he tolerated it without decomposition which impressed everyone involved.

The Anesthesiologist when they found out about the incident came back up once he could get out of the OR room to checked on him. He wanted to make sure Raymond was still doing well and reassured us that this does not happen often but that was the best time with all the appropriate staff at his side. The surgeon also came by after her next surgery
and said the same basic thing.

We finally ate for the first time around 2:30. When we returned Raymond’s body temperature was low by a couple of degrees. Shortly after that his heart rate dropped along with his blood pressure. We have been warming him for the last two hours and but his heart rate has not shown a corresponding rise. He has gotten to full fluid boluses and we have epinephrine in a med line waiting in case it is necessary to raise his blood pressure.

All and all the first day of Raymond tracheostomy has been very stressful. He really hope we can get his temperature back up and his heart from up from low 60’s to back in the 90’s.

Pray no more issues with his tracheostomy
Pray Raymond gets his heart rate and pressure back up so we don’t have to wonder that something else maybe going on.

Love in Christ,
Ray and Helen

Raymond will leaving in a few minutes to get his tracheostomy.

Raymond is high risk for this procedure because of his heart condition and passive blood flow through the lungs, his current condition and the anesthesia requirements. Anytime his airway is manipulated is crucial for him. He has a subglottic edema which is just above the local cords from all the prior intubations.

Pray for the procedure to go smoothly
Pray we have no airway issues
Pray that anesthesiologist has no issues

Love in Christ,
Ray and Raymond
