Navy For Moms

Hello All~

I couldn't stand the thought of waiting 2 weeks for the form letter to get my son's address and whereabouts so I called his recruiter and he was able to look on his computer and tell me that he is in Division 274 on Ship 10 the USS Enterprise! :)
So, would love to connect with Mom's of SR's who are in the same place with him!

Hi Jenn~

Awesome! I am so happy to have found someone whose child is with mine! I hope they become great friends and stick this out! What is your son going to do? Mine will most likely be grad n go; but, just across the way because he should be staying in GL for his A-School. He is classified as an HM or Hospital Corpsman~I am so proud of him!
So, today I found out that their PIR date is August 7!!!! Just 49 days away!! :)

im so glad you found out the PIR date, our recruiter said it would be around that date, but didn't know for sure yet. like you, i hope that our boys become really good friends. josh will be going to pensacola for A-school, im not sure if he is a grad and go or not. i do know that he won't get to come home after bootcamp though. he's classified as a CTT. im not holding up so well at this point, i miss him so much. i can't wait to talk to him or get a letter from him, hopefully it won't be to much longer. keep me posted on how you are doing and what you have heard from your son. big hugs to you!!

I hope you don't mind but when I wrote my son a letter today I mentioned that I had met you on here and that he should look for a kid named Josh (even though I don't know if they know anyone on a first name basis unless they ask and we can't tell our last names on here) whose Mom's name is Jenn. Hopefully he will get a chance to check around and it will excite them to have something in common--even if it is us! :)
I am not holding up well either. I have three young daughters at home but he is my firstborn and only son and I am constantly anxious and wondering how he is. It is SO tough not having communication with them and I don't know if I will ever get use to it. I worry about him every day; I think that comes with putting 'miliatary' in front of Mom. I just hope he holds up and gets through these next couple of weeks cause they are going to be tough. My brother-in-law who has been in the Air Force for 20 years told me that he will be homesick and lonely but if it's any consolation he will also be too busy and tired to have time to think about it much. I worry more about him than myself although I fight the anxiety minute by minute. Pray a lot, use this site and if you ever need someone to talk to you can call me. 605-759-1353; feel free to call anytime.

I got my first phone call home! Not the 30 second one; a REAL one! They finished P-Days today and were issued their guidon (division flag) and MY SON was chosen to be the carrier of the guidon!!!! Yipppeee!! He cried through the whole conversation and so did I; but he did say, to my heart's much needed content, 'Mom, you have nothing to worry about here; this is easy as shit!' his exact words...hahaha He had found out his PIR date; which I already knew and told me my letter was coming with a password on it? He said I would need it and to remember that the first letter is capitalized...I have NO idea what he is talking about but will understand when I get the letter I am sure. I think he is referring to the first form letter from the Navy that gives his address, etc. but not sure. Also, he said that he was chosen as guidon because he is 'small (5'5" tall) and because his ?commander? said he 'holds himself well.' Anyway, he was rewarded a 2-minute call for this and it all happened so fast I had a hard time believing it even happened! BUT it didn't last 2 minutes...according to my cell phone it was 6 min 16 sec! :) Anyway, you won't believe how much better you feel when you just get to hear his voice even if you don't remember half of what they say and you cry through it all; it just makes you able to take that first breath and exhale knowing they are alright!
I will write the whole conversation on my page if you're interested but have to wait till around noon as I have been up all day then worked tonight so going on 24 hours with no sleep; but after his call I was walking on sunshine!

BIG HUGS to you...be strong mame, we can do this!! lol :)

Don't go insane with worry; we need sane Mom's waiting for our boys! hahah I do understand where you are coming from though. I am anxious, worried, frustrated and sad almost every minute of the day but I push it aside and pray. I know it is normal for a Mom to feel this way; especially when you put Military in front of Mom. You should try doing some of the things I do, if you haven't already. I go online and read all I can about what's going on in their training this week; I have found many different sources by just doing a search on Navy basic training. I don't know if any of them are correct but mind has to have something to do when it comes to knowing what he may be doing. I also searched on his job and what he will be learning etc. so it makes me feel like I know what direction he will be taking...just mind busyness is all it is...but, keeps the worry away for awhile. Write a lot too; it's cathartic and if you tell him how much you miss him and how much faith in him you have and encourage him and tell him how proud you are it kinda makes it feel like you get all the things out that you need to say. Just don't get too discouraging cause he needs to be strong; at least that's what everyone has told me! :) I am here if you ever need to chat, etc.

Got my form letter today! It is definitely a form letter that my son had to fill in the blanks where indicated! He did write a short note on the bottom. It read: "Hey Mom, it's Colby. Basic isn't as hard as I thought it would be, yet anyways. I think it's going to get a lot harder, but I don't know. I love you all and miss you very much." There's a brochure included too that has the motels listed and a map and more information. I didn't know there was a Six Flags within 15 minutes of the base; but I know what my family will be doing on Saturday now!! Would be cool if you and your son and whomever comes to PIR with you joined us!!

Hello Teresa~

That is sooo cool that our kids are together; even though we don't get to talk to them and see them it is still comforting to know who is with him! I will write my son and tell him about yours too! I don't mind that you did~I think this site is so cool and comforting!
Keep writing; it's cathartic for us even when we don't know how they are. My son said, "this is as easy as shit," haha...so, rest assured that they weren't pushing them too hard as of Saturday anyway!!!
We stuck to the list of things they could take so I didn't get my kid in a box and I haven't got the form letter yet either; but, will let you know if I do and you do the same!
God is watching them while we cannot and I am worried and anxious and sad and frustrated everyday too; but I am assured because of that. I will be praying for you and your son!

Hi, just found out today my son is Div 274, USS Enterprise! So glad to know other mom's are on here whose sailor's are in the same div. My son's recruiter told me the date he has for PIR is Aug 12, but that's a Wednesday and he says they always graduate on Friday's. So he said it was probably going to be the 14th. I saw somewhere on Navy4Moms, there is a website to check for grad dates and parking passes , etc, does any one know what it is? I can't find the post I originally saw it in. For now I have to take all the letters to the post office that I have been writing!!!! Hope to chat with you all over the next few weeks. I think that's what helps us all the most (well except for the occasional letter and phone call, which I havn't gotten yet!
