Navy For Moms

Hopefully I am doing this right because I did a search and could not find a discussion topic that matched my son's. Please let me know if there is another one somewhere that I am missing. We FINALLY got our form letter today and I was really starting to get worried. I feel terrible though because we did not get it until this afternoon, and I feel bad that we do not have enough time to get a letter to him by tomorrow for mail call. I hate the idea of my son standing there and watching as other kids get letters and he does not have any. This is especially true because his short but sweet note said that he really wants us to write him because boot camp is hard and he misses everyone and wishes he was home. The next comment, though, was about how he hopes we are not giving his room away to his sister... and he included a smiley face... so that reassured me a little. As soon as we got his letter with his mailing address, my husband ran to the post office and paid $3 per letter to send each of our letters immediately. They said they will get the letter to the base tomorrow (Sun), but I doubt Bruno will get it on time for mail call. That really breaks my heart... I just hope he realizes that we did not get the information on time.

Has anyone else heard from their son or daughter yet?? October 30, 2009 seems so much sooner than we thought. We were thinking mid-November rather than late October.

Take care everyone!!

Hi Jen,
My son Jim is also on Ship 10 Division 371. We have not heard anything from our son yet except the very brief phone call when he got to BC. Hopefully we will get something on Monday. We have been writing and sending things daily. Only 48 days till we see them. I cannot wait!!!

Since we only got the letter today... we have not had a chance to send him letters yet, but for his going away party, we gave everyone in the family envelopes with stamps on them and stationery. Hopefully we will be able to rally around and get him some letters. What types of things are you sending?? I picked out a few family photos to send in my last letter, but I did not know if we could send anything else. I know packages are not allowed.

When you say 48 days that sounds better than 6 weeks or whatever we are at now!! It is really neat to see another mom from Bruno's group. I am curious how many kids are in their division. :)

We have not gotten a call or anything other than the original either. I will post as soon as we do!!

Take care!

Jennifer

Jennifer and Dee,

Hello ladies. I too received my form letter today. My son is Brett and he is also on Ship 10 Div 371, graduating on Oct. 30th. I am so excited and yes missed out on getting my letters out today. First thing Monday though. I have not heard from Brett, except for the 15 sec I'm here call. Miss him terribly. I did make hotel reservations today. I am still looking into plane tickets. I live in Wylie, a suburb of Dallas. Hope to connect with both of you more. Take Care and my prayers are with you both.

Hi Tonya!!

You are really on the ball since you already have hotel reservations! We are trying to decide where to stay. I looked in the brochure but I remember when I first signed up on here, there were a lot of moms making recommendations of where to stay for graduation. I am going to poke around on here a little bit and see if I can figure out a good place to stay.

It is really hard to go so long without hearing from my son. He has always been a little on the geeky side, so my concern for him is that he may not be fitting in. He also has never been away from home for more than a day or two and he is very much a homebody so I worry about how well he is hanging in there. I cannot wait until we finally get a phone call or a letter. I read on one of these threads that the guys get to write letters mostly on Sunday, but also sometimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am keeping my fingers crossed that that means we will all start seeing some letters soon.

Take care!!

Jennifer

Jennifer and Tonya,

It is so good to have our own little group! We have sent a variety of newspaper clippings mostly about sports. Jim lives for his scores. We are trying to let him keep a hold of a little piece of home. We keep him up to date about the high school football team too. We have been researching plane tickets and hotels, but have not made any reservations yet. Still waiting for a letter, a note... something. It's great to hear I'm not alone. Keep in touch.

I agree that it is so nice to have other parents who are going through the same thing to chat with. I have been writing letters like crazy!! We are keeping our fingers crossed for a phone call this week since during the 15 second "I got here" call Bruno said he would call again in two weeks. I just have so many questions for him!! I will definitely post when we finally hear from him!!

Take care,

Jennifer

HI ladies! I too got that 15 sec phonecall in the first three days actually it was a wed night. Then I heard from chris last thursday to say the grad date on letter was wrong it is the 30 He is ship 10 div367. He sounded ok. It was a 15 sec call if and he did say he had been sick. But that was it. My heart broke...I miss him terribly! Has anyone gotten official letters. He said he had written a few but I still have none from him to date.

I keep reading about the fact that the 10/23 graduation got moved to 10/30. That probably means the 10/30 PIR is going to be huge! Carol- what day did your son arrive at boot camp? My son arrived on 9/2/09. Just curious if the 10/23 group arrived at BC earlier? I have not received any letters either. It REALLY worries me that I read somewhere that the letter writing time is also when they iron. Bruno is not exactly a skilled ironed so I cannot picture him having much time left to write. ::sigh:: Who knows?? Maybe he will surprise me!!

Take care,

Jennifer

I am thinking Christopher actually arrived at boot camp on the 28 of august. He fgot in later that nite, I am still waiting for my letter. ALos folks I made reservations at theRed Carpet in, for 10/29-11/1,There is a 72 hour time to cancel if anything changes, 25 miles form Oharre airport, but it is only 1 mile from base. I think this will be a huge asset as in the fact the recruits if had time of sat could walk over to us!!! Relieves problems with getting on base day after grad. Let me know naything anyone else has heard, also for two beds 56.00 one bed was only 49. I can not wait to see him!!! Or at least here from him where it is not so restricted. Have a good day everyone!

Hi All,
I'm happy to say we got the form letter today! When he added a personal note at the bottom he directed who he wanted us to share his address with. He sounds like he is doing fine. He has requested sports scores as I knew he would as he even wrote on the inside of the envelope. His form letter did not say he was a grad and go, so am I to assume we should be able to spend some time with him on both Friday and Saturday? I sure hope so. Talk to you all soon!
