I would stay at the Courtyard Marriott... Everything is right there that you would need... Restaurants, shopping, WALMART for those last minute needs, ETC... The shuttle to the graduation is only $3 there and $3 back and you don't have to wait in lines for security to check your car... It's a new hotel with swimming pool, hot tub and the service was perfect.. $119 a night but it was well worth it...

Thanks. That is where my hubby said to go, but I wanted to see if anyone had actually stayed there. I like the shuttle idea. We will have a rental car, but would like to avoid waiting for secruity! :-) Congrat's on the new sailor!

Thanks for the info. JoAnna. How long did you stay?

We are staying at the NAvy Lodge. It is only $65 a night. That's an option also.

We stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton in Lincolnshire. Very nice hotel!!! Definitely recommend it. If you tell them you are there for Navy Graduation your rate will drop to $79 a night for a 1 bedroom suite. Nice hot breakfast every morning and a complimentary light dinner Sun-Thurs. Only took about 20 minutes to get to the base. We checked in on Wednesday as our PIR was on a Thursday (it was Labor Day weekend).

Hi Ursula. My son PIRd on 8/28/09. We stayed at the Residence Inn in Waukegan. I'm a rewards member for Marriott and used AAA and only paid $260 for 3 nights and checked out Sunday. Only 3 miles to BC. We used the shuttle ($3 there/ $3 back just let the front desk know). This way we didn't have to wait in line if we drove our car. They have a free full breakfast every morning. I got the 1 bedroom suite which had a small kitchen (no oven) full fridge, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, microwave, 2-burner stove, dishwasher. There was also a sofabed. However, if I had upgraded to a 2 bedroom, I believe I would have gotten an oven (lol). Walmart was right down the road from the hotel. Red Carpet Inn is next to Flanagan's and literally just down the street from BC. My son was soooo exhausted, when he got back to the hotel room with us, he fell asleep on my shoulder. He had a homecooked meal and then we took him back by 6:30 (they have to be back at a certain time to allow them to walk back to their ship). He couldn't wait to take a "real" shower "by himself". The luxuries they miss (lol).
It really depends upon what you want to do and how much you and he want to do while you are there.

Maria--
My son's PIR ia 11/6 and I have already booked at the Residence Inn. I've stayed at these before and they are usually very nice. I didn't see anything online about the shuttle, so I am quite please to know they offer that service!! Do I need to reserve a spot on that before we go, or just when we check in??
