I have noticed over time the same questions have been ask. So I put a little something together in hopes that it will be helpful to all of you.

What will there first day be like at BC? I wonder if he or she is ok. Check out this site, it gives you some idea what there first day was like.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd7_yp0Hkwc

Can they take anything to BC with them?
Recruits should go with what they have on there back. Everything will then come back to you in "The Box" They can keep their watch, religious metels and a wallet. Along with some toiletries.

"The Box"
This will be hard. This was your first test. The call will come. Short and to the point. " I made it, I am here, I am fine, Love you, I gotta go" Then "Your kid comes home in a box " minus your kid. Yes, you will cry but you will be fine. Then the form letter comes. You have waited days for a letter, something and all you get is a form letter with a small note at the bottom from your recruit. But this is all good. This form letter is full of info. Now you can mail out all the letters you have been writting. Remember to send a few picture along with encouraging words. Lots of letters. Mail is like gold to your recruit. They live for Mail day every Sunday. They also get to write home every Sunday. So run to the mail box every Wednesday for your letter. Some recruits will get to call home. This is something that is earned. And the calls are very random. Strange times of the day. But its always nice to hear from them.

"PIR date"
There is a web site to check grad dates.
http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

Your form letter should have given you your recruits Division Number. You will need this to check your PIR date. If your divison is not listed. Be patient, it will be. Once PIR date is given and you know your child is doing well. Then you can start making plans for your trip.

There are many hotels in the area. I would recommed to rent a car. It makes life easier. After PIR most Sailors will be able to leave. But make sure they are back on time. No gifts at PIR. Sorry to say they are still in BC. Sailors can not take anything back to base with them. Enjoy your weekend with you son or daughter. Love the changes they made, see the sites of Chicago. Live for the moment. It all ends way to soon. But it will be the best weekend of you life.

I love the fact that this site has grown so large. I don't mean to make lite of Boot Camp but if you don't put a little humor in your life what a sad world it would be. Hope to talk you all of you later. Donna

Hey Christine Ship 09 I am doing well. Very very busy ~ I have so much to do the next 16 days! In the beginning it seemed so far away. When my son stated the time will go fast, in his last letter, I then decided it was time to count the days. I wish you happy days. Keep busy lady! If you ever feel like gasping for air and crying at a stop light ~ Just do it! I did it today and we only have 16 more days! Sorry for the repeat...I am so excited.

To all new BC N4Ms ~ Stay in touch with your Ship/Division group through this process. I have gained some great N4M Buddies. I can't wait to meet them soon ~ kk

~~ I'm not margaret, but JM-- we got in around 1:30pm and it took us almost an hour, give or take, but it may take a little longer with rush hour. you go on the interstate/highway from airport, it isn't a bad drive.

The 900's for the performing divisions, these are divisions who do flag, ceremonies, ect. during PIR.
the 800's are the special ops divisions, whatever rate they consider in this area.

the other divisions are just a mixed rate division. There isn't really a rhyme or reason which division they are put into in these divisions, they just fill divisions as the recruits come in. Some are all male and some are mixed guys and gals.
so other that the 800's and 900's, the others are just mixed and put into divisions.

Question on Division numbering -

I know 900's have a special meaning for a specific type.

Most are in the 20's and 30's...

My son is in Ship 09 Division 201

Any idea what 201 is for? Are division #200's different, like the 900's?

Thanks

We are going to stay at Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire. It will be about a 20 minute ride for us to PIR. My daughter's friend is coming with us so we reserved a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with kitchen and living room for the weekend. Prices are what we have paid for just a room elsewhere. I figured that it would give everyone a little more space.

On the main page of N4M I read a post about PIR for dummies, that was really helpful and insightful..We dont have tollbooths where we live, so it wouldnt have occured to me to bring lots of quarters, or take advantage of the hotel shuttle to graduation. We will be staying at Waukegan Quality Inn, approx 3.5 miles from PIR

Just remember, the reservation has to be in your recruit's name.
