Tonya, I still don't know when/if Dan can come home for any holiday-t-giving or Christmas. He's supposed to leave P-cola on Friday, but when he went to start the checking out process on Monday afternoon, the office was closed and won't be open until tomorrow because of the holiday and tropical storm/hurricane going through. He has to report right before Thanksgiving to his duty station. The plan was he would come home between leaving p-cola and reporting, but he hasn't been able to check anything. I am very sure it is just way too expensive to come home so soon, so maybe Christmas. But, he has to get to his duty station, then put in for leave. It may not work. So, we are learning very quickly that it is all hurry up and wait. Poor guy, he's pretty frustrated. AND, you're right, how do these young sailors with families afford the changes/last minute stuff??? You have a right to vent.

I want to thank all the VETS for putting there lifes in harm and all the ones (including our kids) who will... And thank all the sailors and other milatary for our freedom!
Also thank my son for he is going to do, Im very PROUD OF HIM and all our sailors...

and to my father ( who passed in 99) that fought in the Vietnam/Korea war.

Argh! Frustrating! My son was FINALLY informed that he wouldn't be heading to San Diego until mid-January (for STG A School), so he made flight arrangements home for Christmas from GL. (Which cost a lot more money than it could have because of how late he was informed). Now he's suddenly being told that he may just well be sent to San Diego BEFORE Christmas. If that's the case, he's figuring close to $1,000 out-of-pocket (overall) to change over his airfare, if he even can because flights are booking up. And he still doesn't know for sure. And he doesn't know WHEN he'll know for sure. I'm sorry, I just had to vent. The thing is, it's frustrating and expensive enough for a single guy like Nate, but what about sailors with with families? Families that rely on the income and simply cannot afford the extreme cost of refundable tickets or dealing with the cost of changing out tickets at the last minute? Or even knowing if getting a flight at a late date will be possible? Grrrr.

Marion my daughter's husband is on a carrier and instead of giving out to much info on here...I will send you a message via facebook. She isn't here right now but will be here later tonight and I will ask her questions before I leave a message because I don't want to give you an wrong info.
Tonya..it was a WONDERFUL moment at graduation with Cody there. I really didn't think he would make it..I had tears in my eyes. I was the proudest mom there..after all I had TWO sailor men on my arms! lol He had to put in a "chit" (I believe that is what he called it) but he didn't care..he was glad to be able to go! As you can see it in their smiles!!!

Morning All, How are you this morning? Tonya, thanks for the great Idea, I think that is what i will get Justin for Xmas.... I was trying to thinnk what could i get him with him leaving in Jan...And I think thats perfect other then cash... which i still might just do that too. He might come home for christmas, so i might just him the cash too.
Lynn love all your pictures...and glad to see you on my facebook, hope i can get more of you on my facebook and myspace but if not ill be here too, i wouldnt know what to do without this group.
Anyways, now Justins wanting to buy him a car, I just dont know what to think about it, he has one now hes paying on but it wants a newer one, and he said if he can get it now, then while he is gone he can pay it off and it will be paid off by the time he gets back. I try to talk him out of it and try to wait but you know boys they dont want to listen and Justin when he wants something he wants it. So i just go along with him, i dont know much eles to do because i dont want to fight with him... The only thing is he needs to build his credit up and ill probabaly have to co sign for him. but im not worry about that cause i know he will pay it, he has always paid his bills. Then i wonder how the cell phone thing will work? they probabaly wont be able to call on it while they are on the ship, that will probabley cost alot.... does anyone know anything about contact while they are on the ship? i know it wont be like it is but will be still be able to talk to them some, will they have internet ect... if anyone knows let me know, i just want to get some info or be more confotable before he leaves, Somaila is a long way....makes me nervous now thinking about it, but i wont show it...

Lynn, that must have been so cool for the brothers to "share" like that! Gives me goosebumps! I'm so glad the Navy allowed this — it didn't sound like they were even going to be able to see each other. It's stuff like that, that sure is important for good morale.

Hey ladies, I just went to the NEX site (Google Navy Exchange NEX and it'll take you there) and purchased a NEX gift card for Nate for Christmas. What's cool is that I uploaded a photo from his PIR weekend of all of us at the Navy Pier with Chicago in the background and that will be the front of the gift card! The only thing civilians can purchase there are gift cards, but they make a welcome and sensible Christmas gift. (Easily transportable!) :o)
