Jessesmom, He's been in a little over 2 years. He's at sea now, but he'll be back in time for us to see him next month. That will be fun.
So, your son is on the spiffy new ship! It must be nice to have everything brand new.

The Bonhomme Richard is a LHD - the largest boat with a fligth deck that is NOT a carrier
It carrier Helo wings instead of Air Wings - LHD's are generally he ships they transport Marines on .
Crew: Ships Company:
104 officers, 1,004 enlisted
Marine Detachment: 1,894 When my step son was a Marine - he was deployed and transportsed with all of the equipment for their detachment to Iraq -

I have a very frustrated son on the Reagan. My youngest son was kind of forced out of reenlisting a couple years ago because of the PTS and not being able to find a crossrate available that he was interested in. Now my older son is trying to reenlist and they've put off his PTS for the 4th month in a row and now he's hearing from "above" that his rate is very overstaffed and he may not be able to reup unless he cross rates! ARGH! He's done everything at the top of the list since the asvab, top grad at BC, top sailor in A school, 2nd class in first enlistment, shop supervisor and now they might dump him! Thanks for listening!

Welcome Suzanne! I too have one son stationed on the Ronald Reagan (who are presently deployed) which is docked in San Diego and my older son will be out there too in about a year. He is on the Carl Vinson, currently in the ship yards in Newport News, Va. How long has your son been in the Navy? Maybe we will get to meet at some point. Obviously, I will be spending alot of time in Cali!!!
