Good Morning !!!!

Wedding dresses .... I found mine in a magizine and went to this cute little Cottage type store in Carpenteria ( near Santa Barbara, Cali ) to buy it.. It cost me 125.00..That was in 1981.. We were married in Manning Park which is a popular place to get married ( its in Montecito ).. We had about 150 guest and most were from out of town... Now my cub and cub to be are getting a wedding planer .. Man, I planned mine and it turned out nice... Its there turn sooooooo ...

Uli, love wet side/blue side stories. We are all Navy after all, and the green side guys will eventually be back blue one day. Keep the stories coming!
Love the wedding stories, I bet the mom made dresses were just gorgeous. Carol Ive seen that wedding picture of yours, you look so happy.

Moving day- moving some furniture out of my MILs house, taking some to FIL in nursing home , rest to my house so nephew can move his bedroom furniture etc. IN to her house. Let's see how THIS goes....

Wedding expeditures.....wow! My dress in 1972 was a whopping $110 after tax. I told Mom I'd sew my own. She'd hear nothing of it - said I should have a store bought dress. I loved my dress! My wedding with the 4 tier cake, and punch serving 350 people, flowers, pictures and everything tipped the scale at $1000. Half the money came from the rent I'd paid mom and dad toblive at home when I graduated high school and chose to get a job instead of attending college because we were engaged. Mom tucked it away because the rent wasn't because they needed the money but because she was teaching me to budget my money. Good lesson! Nice savings account :-)

Two daughters now married. I made both their dresses - to their specifications. One with an 8 foot train, hoop-style skirt, beading, and lace. That one cost $300 and about 100 hours of work on my end. Totally worth every bit. The other was Grecian style, champaign color, satin under chiffon. Very simple. $150 and made twice because she got things out of order so the baby bump and chest grew 4" in 3 weeks. Lol. Each had a budget to work with anything over the budget came out of their pockets. Oldest daughter had sit down lunch. They kicked in about $1000 - probably slightly under that. We paid $3000 - 13 years ago. Last year, our youngest daughter had a $2000 budget. Again because of things out of order, family policy was we would pay for a smaller event. She and hubby wanted a sit down dinner. Since it was out of the budget allowance, her hubby cashed in a cd and paid for it. His dad is well-to-do and could have paid for it out of pocket change probably but he agreed with us - which shocked him - so the kids paid for it themselves. Never asked the damages on that one (grin). I think $25000 weddings is poor stewardship in my book. It isn't a show. It's a commitment ceremony for friends and loved ones to witness the lifetime commitment being made. Folks have list sight of that part. So much of that money could be used as a down payment on a house!!! Or reliable transportation. Practical Kathy strikes again. Lol

sitting here in Grand Haven all day at a wrestling tournament. ..my wedding dress cost $125...bargain rack...reception $350. My daughters wedding was $2500 total. Her dress cost me $850 but I told my hubby that she was my only daughter so I did not care..but I would not have gone any higher for one 3 hour day. My hubby roasted a pig and I made the rest of the meal for the reception at the church...no hall and no band...no alcohol...worked for me.
Hope to meet up with some Michigan moms tomorrow. Busy weekend. Hope everyone has a great day...I am..I'm on overtime!!!

Good Morning,

Happy Birthday to Marcy's dad, Welcome back Marcy!

Steam ! power of the future Sharon, glad you have your guys whipped in to working responsible.

I vote for the back to school topic on your Essay Carol, the other might get to politically charged, depending on the views of the instructor, just a thought.

Snow ?  I think we got cheated once again, we see snowflakes, almost all day long, then it ends up being less than 3-4 ". I Hear the wind blowing, that might make for some interesting road conditions, but no new snow. Sigh, mark my word, they will be whining like you never heard them whine before, when the Lake levels are down again. Most times it is the same ones that whine about the snow, not enough cheese in WI to serve with all of the "whine" gong on.

The last might be to local to be funny to all.

Wedding dresses ( Garb) as a whole is nuts in my eyes, most  reminds me of a costume party and all are very uncomfortable as their movements show, blue jean guys in a Tux ? how about buying a suit so you have something decent to wear to Great  Grandpa's Funeral the year after.

Not a clue what my dress cost, Mom and I went shopping, she controlled the purse, I picked, must have been OK, she never batted and Eyelash. Dad and hubby to be, went shopping for their stuff, and all was well, for years that black suit served him well. Till it shrunk. ^.~

Lorelai, I think said it, regarding those expensive weddings not lasting, when all the effort goes in to the show, then,  when the curtain goes down, ( or the last drunk is wheeled out) it's over. But since there is recouped energy, we now have a "D" fight. Again, have watched some good ones.

Have you ever noticed that those with comfortable family money don't have to hang it out there for all to see. I have laughed myself through many a wedding, you do  remember one of my Hobby's turned in to a business for awhile.

Anna, let the man do his job, giggle, your description brought back a movie reels worth of memories. Those where the days, except I never did Airport pick up, not my job,  the Co. had people  that did that.

Are we going to have an  R&R volley, one pitches snowballs and the other drops  the fire hose, to spray, look out so,  there is Turkey in the water. NO really! I remember that story well.

I am off , another super busy day, well at least morning. Hoping to get time for  a manicure this afternoon, the Rex bite, is healing, just one spot is sore, I think I can deal with it getting bumped during the procedure. Hm, not sure now, if I mentioned here, Rex the  Dragon bit me. I am not sure that it is a REX, might be a Rexina, seems to go hormonal at times.

Since it is not war related, maybe there is no interest, but the big Tugboat maneuver was successful, even though it was not the maneuver that was planned, since they never made it to the Pacific. This is a wet side story, not a green side story. Learning all about the frictional fractions within, interesting.

Princes, are you packed yet, remember layers CA Girl, the magic of warmth comes from layers.

Oh crap I haven't seen a size 4 since that first year of marriage went way up to 5 was a 7 until I hit my 30's and kept moving on up, just like the Jefferson's. I'm a chubby 12- 14 on bottom and 16 on top.... I was skinny as a rail and tried to be a 7 wanted it so bad, 7 was "the" size to be... oh geeze that was a generation ago....

You looked so adorable in your wedding suit! You guys looked fabulous - it seems the MORE people spend on their weddings, the faster they get divorced. The cheap weddings seem to have the long marriages! My wedding was "cheap" by Orange County standards - $7,000 total - I had a florist who worked out of her home do the flowers, a baker who worked out of her home do the cake, etc. We had 115 people at the reception, had a buffet instead of a sit down served dinner. My sister spent $13,000, andnow people spend $25,000 without batting an eye!! Crazy

You were a size 4? I was a size 4 when I WAS 4! Smallest I ever remember being was a 6x ( I was 7), then a size 10 for years and years. Now I'm a 12 and I refuse to go higher! That's why I keep gettin' my old butt outa bed in the morning to go exercise. But nice to meet you, size 4! We're not worthy :D

Hi girls! Lorelai, what a beautiful bride! And you still are. :-)

Ya'll have seen my wedding picture, right? Tony and me in hiking gear under a huge tree? Yep, that was my wedding dress; a sweatshirt, Tony's Levis, and hiking boots. Definitely a budget-friendly event. lol

Lorelai the thought of a big wedding with a wedding dress never really crossed my mind, that was something the rich girls did, not girls like me. My mother bought the suit I was married in because she too wore a navy blue and white suit when she married her sailor. She made my garter and made that hat. She took a straw bucket hat, cut the big end off, dyed it navy blue, put a strip of lace on it, found some toile cut it in a circle and laid it on top of the hat, she also dyed my white shoes navy... oh the suit was a 9, I wore a 4, clothes that small were hard to find in 1967.  I didn't care, I just wanted to marry that sailor...
