My son is in Ft. Meade Md and has Thanksgiving off. In fact he has been invited to his commander's house for dinner.....he'll be home for Christmas this year! Yahoo! We missed last year as he was in bc for ALL the holidays!

Thank you for the info on food and uniforms. We are going to see our Sailor in Pensacola and have Thanksgiving with him. I can't wait to hug him.

They do have to pay for food and uniforms. However, they do get a food and uniform allowance from the Navy. So, if he hasn't gotten it already, he will be getting those payments soon. The food allowance is monthly, the uniform allowance comes once a year. Your husband is right about not paying for those things. Officers always paid for food and uniforms, but enlisted only started that when we went to the all volunteer army. The Navy has always been all volunteer of course.

my son is at corry station in ctt training, does everyone get Thanksgiving day off. do they shut down for Thanksgiving day like Christmas. Also it is my understanding that the Navy is taking money out of their pay for food and now he is required to pay money for uniforms and sea bags for his first assignment, he is going to San Diego, basically using up all the money he has. My husband was in the service during the Vietnam era and he doesn't remember having to pay out for all of this.

Hello all, my son graduates C School on 11/23 and doesn't have orders yet. He was told Japan and now is being told Virginia so I guess we will wait and see. He is planning on Christmas vacation with us. I will get to see him for a day or so. So excited.

You're right Clockard, its not easy. He is my first born. I am trying to "go with it". But i've never been without him at Christmas.
