Comment by Lady Hamilton yesterday IDW update - Passed test and going before the board on Thursday. Keeping fingers crossed.
Also, will be leaving Bahrain in July for more schooling in Pensacola (Combat Direction Finding). Then some time off before reporting to USS Momsen (DDG 92) in Everett WA,
Question: With 2 warfare pins, SW and IDW, which goes on top, which on bottom? I heard somewhere that it depends on the command. SW on top if assigned directly to a ship and IDW if assigned to a CT command. Anyone?
Comment by carolina Lynne on May 6, 2013 at 5:24pm I, too, am fascinated by Blechley circle. wondering how different cryptology looks these days! Hoping my SR will get to start classes right away when he arrives 5/18. How do we know if his Security screening has been completed? as far as we know, no one has been contacted by the FBI (?) to inquire about activites/relationships- even though he provided all those names and numbers months ago.
Good morning all, I have not been very active on this page but I will be now since my sailor is in Pensacola awaiting to start A school to become a CTT. he is loving it in Pcola right now and cannot wait to start school.
Comment by Muschee on April 22, 2013 at 1:11pm This comment isn't "Navy", but it is "Cryptology" so I hope it is okay to post. There is a PBS mini-series currently running that I find interesting. The Bletchley Circle revolves around 4 women who use their cryptology skills used in WWII to track down a serial killer. It appears they are showing the first of 3 parts a few times this week, if anyone else is interested.
Comment by Debbie in MD on April 19, 2013 at 9:48am IDW Pin - Information Dominance Warfare pin. It's a big deal. My sailor had to take 3 tests (1 one day and 2 another) and then sit for a murder board made of 1st classes and then one made of chiefs. He studied for months before he took the first test!
Comment by CTmomof3 on April 19, 2013 at 7:54am IDW Pin...what's a board and why are there 3 for this?
Comment by Craig on April 15, 2013 at 11:51pm This is big talk on the Navy veterans websites I'm on....

Comment by Craig on April 10, 2013 at 2:22am Shoot, I forgot....the below post refers to the new bonus levels that just came out.
Here are the new bonus levels for reenlistment....
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/messages/Documents/...
I know someone will ask....
Here's How to figure your bonus:
Look up your monthly base pay on the military pay chart
Determine your Reenlistment Zone (Zone A is 21 months - 6 years; Zone B is 6 years - 10 years; Zone C is 10 years - 14 years)
Look up the correct Bonus Multiplier for your Reenlistment Zone and NEC (Job)
Multiply your monthly base pay by the Bonus Multiplier (BM X BP)
Multiply the result by the number of years you are reenlisting for.
The result is the total amount of your reenlistment bonus. One-half will be paid upon reenlistment, and the rest divided to pay annually.
Tips:
If you are reenlisting for partial years, use fractions. For example, 4 1/2 years is 4.5
Remember that about 25 percent will be deducted for federal and state taxes.

Since my son is a CTN. Their SRB bonus is:
Zone A = 0 (4 to 6 years)
Zone B = 3 (6 years 1 day to 10 years)
Zone C = 3 (10 years 1 day to 14 years)
Since he is not totally sure if he's getting out or not, he told me since the bonus is zero (0) for Zone A, and since he won't have 6 years 1 day, he will probably get out. I let him know that he can fall into the Zone B category even though he doesn't have 6 years 1 day. There is one tiny exception to the rule in the rule book that allows him to do this. Most Career Counselors don't have a clue about this rule, so I will post it here just in case your sailor falls into the same category.... (whether if he gets out or not, he needs to know and weigh the actual facts....)
Here is the rule:
OPNAV 1160.8A, para 9b:
a. A member who reenlists more than 24 hours after
discharge or release from active duty (RAD) will be considered a
Navy veteran (NAVET) or Other Service veteran (OSVET) with
broken-service. The 24-hour period begins on the day following
the date of discharge or separation. Recruiters will accept a
prospective reenlistee reentering active duty with a break in
active service greater than 24 hours only when presented with
the original DD Form 214 (copy 1 or copy 4), or a reproduction
of the DD Form 214 with a certified true copy stamp and
imprinted with the appropriate Federal Government authenticating
seal. This form will be used as the principal source document
in determining broken-service SRB eligibility.
also
OPNAV 1160.8A, para 11, note 3:
3. Members with exactly 6 years of active duty at 2400 on the date before
the date of reenlistment or beginning of an extension of enlistment are
entitled to a zone A SRB if otherwise eligible and they previously have not
received a zone A SRB. If members have received a zone A SRB, or no zone A
SRB is designated, they are entitled to a zone B SRB if all other eligibility
requirements are met.
